The ship of friends was one the sailed away daily, far away from memories and pain, or memories and happiness, much to the chagrin of others. But one day, the ship tried desperately to leave harbour, to sail away from everything, but someone had tied the anchor to the dock. In other words, someone would not let the ship leave. Molly Baker had seen friendships come and go, but always as a bystander, never as one of the people. She firmly believed that any friendship of hers could stand through a tsunami, and worse. She believed, and prayed, that no friendship of hers would end as suddenly as some she had seen. She thought that friendship would, and should, last forever. Like the friendship between her and Serena. After all, they had known each other since kindergarten, and one could not exactly break off a friendship that had been that long. Molly had believed that for a long time. For such a long time, now. But now, she was beginning to have doubts, serious doubts. She saw Serena less and less, and even less. She saw Serena with other friends more and more, and even more. And never with Molly. She saw Serena have lots of fun with those other friends, yet when she was with Molly, which was hardly ever, they rarely did anything at all. Molly felt the ship of friends begin to depart from shore. What was going on? Molly just did not know what to think. Friendship meant a lot to her, and once, she had been certain it had meant as much to Serena. Now, she was not so sure. Friendships, to Molly, could just not be forgotten, especially a friendship as long as Molly and Serena?s. Molly certainly could not forget the friendship, it meant so much to her, but it looked as though Serena could. Molly did not know what to do. Or who to blame. Had they just both drifted apart? No, Molly was sure. When had this all started, anyway? While others may debate about when it had all started, Molly was definitely sure that it had started in 1992, the year they were fourteen. A warm, summer day. Warm in weather, cold in hearts. The day of the beginning of the youma attacks, Molly knew. Since that day, she had felt that Serena was thinking of things, things that Molly knew she was not meant to know. It all bloomed when Amy came to their school, and even more when Lita arrived as well. But Molly did not blame them. That year had just been so crazy for everyone. Memory loss, visions, missing people, and demons out of nowhere. Appearances of a hero with so much heart, and friends who stood by her side. But Molly knew that had everything to do with Serena, although Serena may not have known that Molly knew, Molly knew. Molly knew it all. Not that she dared let Serena know. No, she would tell her in due time. But what was she to do for now? Molly knew that she could not face Serena and just confront her. To just let her know what was on her mind, that would not work at all. It would not solve any problem, the problem would just grow and grow, and soon Molly would not be able to face Serena at all. So what was she to do? In her mind?s eye, she saw herself face to face with Serena, telling her. Serena nodded, understanding. And when Molly was done explaining about how their friendship was going down the drain, Serena nodded again. Molly waited for an answer. "Serena?" "Yeah, Moll?" "We?ve been friends since kindergarten, right?" "Yeah, Moll." "Best friends." "Yeah, Moll." "Well, see, lately I?ve been thinking..." "Yeah, Moll?" "You?ve been spending so much time with all those other friends of yours, and we never hang out together anymore." "Yeah, Moll." "Well, we?ve been friends, best friends for so long, that I just can?t stand to see us not be friends anymore." "Yeah, Moll." "So, are we still friends?" "Yeah, Moll." "Are we ever going to spend time together anymore?" "Yeah, Moll." "Are we ever going to go to the mall again?" "Yeah, Moll." "Are we ever going to laugh and cry about things again?" "Yeah, Moll." "Are you listening to me?" "Yeah, Moll." "Are you really?" "Yeah, Moll." Molly fell silent. She pushed Serena over, hoping for some emotion. Emotion of any kind. Serena fell down. She was just a cardboard cutout. And Molly woke up, tears streaming down her face like there was no tomorrow. For her, there was no tomorrow. After deliberating for such a long time, Molly got her courage up. Time to face the inevitable. Were they friends, or not? She had to know. "Serena?" "Uh?" "Look," Molly took a deep breath, "I really need to know this! Are we friends or not? For ages you?ve been hanging around those other girls, and I don?t mind, not really, but you?ve been saying we?re friends, but it doesn?t seem like it all!" Serena just blinked at the outburst, silent. "Gee, Moll..." Molly shook her head. "Either we are friends, or we are not. And we have been friends since kindergarten, and that?s a long time. I really would like to remain friends, but it?s all up to you, now. I can?t just forsake a friendship that goes more than a year. You know I want to be friends with you, but it doesn?t seem like you want to be friends with me." Serena blinked again. "Molly... I?m sorry." "That?s okay. But I just need an answer." Serena nodded, "I?ll get back to you on that." They departed. Serena thought and thought, and thought some more. She looked over pictures of her and Molly, having fun. She thought back to times long ago, and how remembered everything. She dredged up old memories and wondered. Were they still friends? They had not exactly seen each other in the past while, so was their friendship still alive? Could they renew it? Or was it too old, and should just be thrown in the trash can? After a while, she had an answer. Serena took a deep breath. "Molly?" "Yeah, Serena?" "About our friendship..." _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
