I know no matter what..." - "No Matter What" by Boyzone- /*****/////*****/////*****/////*****/////*****/////*****/////*****/ Mamoru was smiling broadly two weeks later. He had passed the MAT. Now he can enroll on the medicine course at his school. He grinned all the way to the gate. There he saw his Usako leaning against the wall waiting for him. As he drew near he noticed that his Usako was a little pale. Worried, Mamoru hastened his steps. "Usako, daijobu?" He asked when he reached her. Usagi looked up, startled. She blinked and shook her head. "Nothing" She replied. "You sure?" Mamoru asked as he placed a kiss on her cheek. "Hai. Nothing's wrong. I'm just a little tired that's all." Usagi said. Mamoru looked at her still unconvinced. "Come on lets go to the coffee shop across the street." Mamoru said as he held Usagi's hand and pulled her with him. "Sure." Usagi said as she followed him. "So?" Usagi asked as they made their way to the coffee shop. "So what?" Mamoru asked. "So how did it go with the test." Usagi asked smiling. "Oh that! well it went great." Mamoru replied as they reached the coffee shop. "How great?" Usagi asked dying to know if he passed. "So great that I could enroll next year." Mamoru said grinning. Usagi squealed in delight and hugged him. "That is so great!!!" She cried, and gave him a kiss. Mamoru laughed and kissed her in return. They walked in and got a table. and then sat facing each other. After placing their order, Mamoru leaned back and smiled at Usagi. "So how is the play coming along?" he asked. "Oh its coming along great. We have the set up already. We just need to make a few minor adjustments." Usagi replied as she toyed with the salt and pepper holders. Mamoru observed her for a few minutes and sighed. "Usako, what's the matter?" He asked seriously. Usagi blinked, and looked at him. "What do you mean what's the matter?" Usagi asked. Mamoru shook his head and leaned forward. "I know something's bothering you. You've been preoccupied lately, especially these past few weeks. You've been...I don't know...restless somehow. What's wrong? You can tell me." He said as he took Usagi's hand. "I told you nothing's wrong." Usagi said a little to sharply. Mamoru drew back and stared at her. ~what's gotten into her?~ he thought as he stared at Usagi. But before he could say anything else, their orders came. After the waiter had left, a tense silence fell on the table. "Usako, I don't know what is..." Mamoru started to say. When Usagi lashed out. "Look, Mamoru. I told you nothing is wrong, so could you just please lay off?" Mamoru blinked. What was this? Usagi never lashed out at him before. Sure she would get upset at him. But never like this. "Usako..." Mamoru said. "I said nothing's..." Usagi started to say when the pain came more intense than before. She cried out and gripped her head. "Usako!!!" Mamoru shouted, then went to her. "It hurts...Mamo-chan...Oh make it stop!!...please!! make it stop!!!!" Usagi screamed as she gripped her head. Crying into Mamoru arms. When it became unbearable, she fainted. "Usako!!!" Mamoru cried out helplessly as he held the unconscious Usagi. By now the occupants of the coffee shop were looking their way. A waiter came by and offered his assisstance. Mamoru shook his head and picked Usagi up then ran to his car that was parked near the university's gates. "She's fine now, Mr. Chiba. But to make sure, we want her to stay the night for observations." the doctor said Mamoru nodded and looked down at his Usako. He had gotten her to the hospital five minutes flat. The staff at the emergency room rushed to him when he came in carrying the pale Usagi in his arms. He was then told to wait as they treated her. Now in the room given to her, Mamoru took Usagi's cold hand and held it in his. The doctor had just come in to tell him about Usagi's condition. "What about the pain in her head?" Mamoru asked without looking away from Usagi. "We're still looking into that, Mr. Chiba. Her blood test may show us the problem." the doctor said, as he looked at the other man's worried frown. Mamoru nodded again and didn't ask anything more. Mamoru called Usagi's parents and told them what happened. They were shocked at first then worry over took them. They hang up after promising to be there as soon as possible. He then called each of the scouts and told them what happened. Each then promised to be there as soon as they can. He sighed as he hang up after calling the last scout and turned to walk back into Usagi's room. Closing the door behind him, Mamoru leaned against it for a few minutes, not wanting to believe that his Usako was there lying very still on the bed. He rubbed his face and straightened then began walking towards Usagi. He sat down on the chair beside the bed and took hold of Usagi's hand once more. All the things that has been happening was worrying him even more. The first to arrive were the Tsukino's. Usagi's mother came in with a smile of gratitude for Mamoru and went to Usagi's side. While Usagi's father just nodded at him and went to follow his wife. Knowing that they wanted to be alone with Usagi for a few minutes. Mamoru quietly left the room. When he stepped outside, he saw Ami and Makoto making their way towards him. "How is she?" Ami asked when they reached him. "She's fine now the doctor says she's okay, but they want her to spend the night just to be sure. Her parents are inside right now. So I suggest you give them a few more minutes before entering." Just then Rei and Minako came up in time to hear what Mamoru said. "Did they say why?" Rei asked. "That's just it they say they don't know yet." Mamoru said as he sat down on one of the chairs near Usagi's room Mamoru sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "Did anything happen this past few weeks?" Mamoru asked the girls tiredly. Everyone started to shake their heads when Ami stopped. "There was one incident," she said remembering. Mamoru looked up at her questioningly. "It was the day when Usagi was to meet you." She said and turned to the others. "Remember? the day Usagi toppled over the paint on the bushes? and we needed to repair them as quickly as possible?" Ami said trying to jog the girls memories. Makoto nodded excitedly. "Yeah now I rememeber we were even curious why Usagi didn't cry or do anything at all." She exclaimed. Rei nodded too. "Yeah it was when that weird guy showed up." "What weird guy?" Mamoru asked, dreading Rei's answer. "That guy from the carnival. The one who drained energy from the young guys." She replied confirming Mamoru's suspicions. "It couldn't be...." Mamoru whispered. "Mamoru?" Minako asked worriedly when Mamoru paled. "What's wrong? are they somehow connected?" Rei asked. "I'm not sure but....ahhhh...." He gasped gripping his head. "Mamoru!" "Mamoru-san!" Mamoru grimced, shutting his eyes tight. "What is it?" Rei asked worriedly. "Usa..Usa..." Mamoru gasped as he stood up unsteadily. Makoto and Minako quickly went to Mamoru's side and helped him up. Not bothering to knock, Rei and Ami on the other hand entered Usagi's room. Sure enough inside Usagi was twisting in her bed as if escaping a terrible pain. Mrs. Tsukino was trying hard to settle her daughter while Mr. Tsukino was calling the nurse's station. "Oh God!! Usagi!!" Rei exclaimed as she and Ami helped Mrs. Tsukino calm Usagi. Seconds later two nurses came in and gave Usagi some mild tranquilizers. The medication kicked in and she quieted. One of the nurse checked her again. "She's fine now we gave her a small doze of tranquilizers to keep her calm." She said. The Tsukino's thanked them and they left. Rei and Ami nodded to them. "Mrs. Tsukino why don't you go home and rest we will stay here with her for the night. Just leave it to us." Rei said, after seeing their haggard faces. Mrs. Tsukino smiled and nodded. "Alright but please calls us if there is any improvement." She said. Rei and Ami nodded. "We will" Ami replied. Mrs. Tsukino bent down and kissed her daughter's forehead. They left the room closing the door behind them. Outside, they both saw Mamoru, sitting between Minako and Makoto, on the chair with his head bent and held between his hands. Mrs. Tsukino went to him and touched his shoulder. Mamoru looked up startled. "Thank you again for calling and bring our daughter here." Mrs. Tsukino said, as she stared at the man her daughter had come to love. "It was nothing Mrs. Tsukino." Mamoru said giving a timid smile. "Saving our daughter's life is something, Mamoru." Mr Tsukino said calling Mamoru by his name for the first time. "And I thank you for it. I guess you could say that my daughter is lucky to have found someone who loves her the way that you do." Mr. Tsukino said before he and his wife left the hospital. Mamoru stood up slowly and entered Usagi's room with Makoto and Minako trailing behind him. "Are you okay?" Rei asked when Mamoru stepped inside. "I'm feeling kinda groggy but I'll be fine. How is she?" He asked as he moved towards the bed. "They gave her mild traquilizers to calm her." Ami said. "So how did you know?" Rei asked. Breaking the silence. "Know what?" Mamoru asked. "Know that there was something wrong?" Mamoru sighed and sat on the chair near Usagi's bed. He took her hand in his and answered. "She didn't block me." The others looked at him, how could they forget? Mamoru and Usagi have a special bond with each other that one always feels what the other does. It was why Mamoru always know when the girls are in trouble because of their links. They themselves have links with Usagi though not as strong as her's and Mamoru's. "Could she have been experiencing these headaches and not telling us?" Rei asked, softly. Looking at her friend. "You know Usagi, Rei, she can't bear to see others suffer. Better she suffer than the ones close to her." Mamoru said tiredly, as he lightly stroked Usagi's hand. "You've got a point there, Mamoru, but still..." Rei trailed off, and sighed. Two hours later Mamoru was left alone again with Usagi. He looked at her dear face, worry written all over his. He tried to think several reason's as to why Akira would want to hurt his Usako. For the life of him, he couldn't think of a single thing that may have triggered this anger if you might call it from him. He sighed, and leaned back against his chair, and stared out of the window just opposite Usagi's bed. He stroked absently at Usagi's limp hand. Unable to break contact with her. He gazed out into the night, thinking of what may have pushed Akira to have hated him so much. Wearily, he closed his eyes. A few minutes later he fell asleep.
