Why Easily Frustrated Senshi Shouldn't Take Computer Science By Amy Bridger (ami@full-moon.com) Makoto held her breath as she pressed the two buttons that would tell if she had won or if the last 5 hours had been in vain. The computer screen glinted evilly as she pressed down Ctrl and F9. SUCCESS flashed up on the screen. Makoto let out her breath slowly and pressed the any key. She pressed the same combination of keys and the screen went blank. And stayed blank. Uttering quite a few choice words under her breath she pushed the Crtl and Break buttons. The evil computer program came back up, highlighting what it was stuck on. The same statement that had worked 5 hours ago when she had first written it and she had had no trouble at all with. Dark clouds began to bew overhead as Makoto's face glowered at the computer. She checked everything again and tryed it again. The blank screen o death greeted her again. Outside a jagged bolt of lightning flashed down and hit some poor soul on the head. This project had been due in a week ago but it still wasn't working! Makoto investigated some of the options listed under Debugging. Inspect looked interesting. She clicked on it and entered a variable name. A little window showed it was equal to -32060. Makoto swore out loud. It should have been equal to one and there was no way it could be equal to anything else! The lights in the room flickered and all the computers rebooted. A few seconds later a loud rumble of thunder could be heard. Makoto reached out and punched the closest wall, leaving a fist sized dent. She hadn't saved for a while and now all her work would be lost! Makoto drummed her fingers on the desk as she waited for the computer to boot. She looked around the room at the other students. Many were from her class, also working on this project. Their faces were dark and gloomy. The project had been way too hard for the class. The computer display the friendly blinking C:\> prompt. Makoto swore at it. She tried to access her disk. Whir.... whir.... whir.... whir... Error: Disk cannot be accessed. Makoto was about to lose it when she noticed she had taken her disk out to let the computer boot. She sheepishly pushed it back in. Error: Can not access file. Makoto had no other copies of her work. She stood suddenly. The noise of her chair falling over made the other students look. She screamed at the computer as loud as she could. "I am going to get you. I will personally fry every single one of your circuits, you @#&%$ machine!" Makoto punched the wall again on her way out, leaving another dent in it. The students began whispering after she left. "She totally lost it.... did you see the dent in the wall she left?... Grant-sensei's project is way too hard!..." After a few minutes the whispers died down and the students returned to work. They were too engrossed to notice, through the windows, a figure in a green sailor fuku approaching the computer lab from outside. "SUPREME THUNDER!" Sailor Jupiter yelled at the computer lab. Lightning shot forward from her fingertips. The intense heat caused the windows to shatter. The lightning raced through the window pane and hit the computer Makoto had been using earlier. It exploded. Pieces rained down upon the students who quickly took shelter. "Hmph," Jupiter said and grinned manically, "That'll teach that computer to mess with me!" The End.
