Before you read this I wanted to say that writing this particular fic made me confused and dizzy! Other than that Masaka (not sure of the spelling) means "It can't be" or "No way.." Okay now that I have extended your vocabulary! *grin* please read on, if you have any comments or anything e-mail me at panga@cadvision.com Chapter 4 Usagi wearily entered her room and sat slumped on a pink chair sighing. The day had been tiresome and eventful. The night was dark as she contemplated, this day had been the day of Mamoru's funeral and days later it would only be a memory. Usagi shuddered thinking that at this moment she was alive and the possibility that at any moment she would not exist at all. Time played a great factor in life and death she thought. Usagi began to balance one of her pink bunny pencils on her upper lip as she began to ponder. Why, if Mamoru had been warned to call them sooner or the senshi had known about where the fight had taken place before hand? Mamo-chan would be still alive, Usagi finished her train of thought. Suddenly Usagi leaped out of her slump, chair crashing to the floor. Poor Luna who had been sitting behind Usagi was squashed by the chair. Tears of pain flowed down her face as she was lifted up and carried out the door by Usagi who murmured a quick apology. "Everyone meet me at Rei's temple A.S.A.P! it's very important!" Usagi said through her communicator watch. Throughout the city 8 people with shocked expressions on their faces and pressed their communicators saying they would be there. As Usagi rushed out of the house and bounded off to Rei's temple a smile forming on her face. * * * * "This had better be good odango-atama," Haruka said wearily her dirty blond hair tousled. Apparently all the Outer senshi were tired after being just healed. "Haruka-san," scolded Michiru elegantly tossing back her light turquoise hair. Even though she had been waken so late and in such a short notice Michiru showed no sign of lingering weariness. Michiru moved beside Haruka and leaned her head on Haruka's shoulder grasping her beloved's arm. "It is very important," Usagi said seriously. "Is Setsuna here with you?" As soon as the words were uttered Setsuna breezed in through the doorway. "What is it, Usagi?" Setsuna asked quietly her expression blank, her long black hair taking on a sheen of green by the glittering light of candles that Rei had set up. "Setsuna, what possibility is there of going back in time to prevent Mamo-chan's death?" Usagi asked bluntly. The Senshi all looked up surprised and bewildered, this being the last thing they expected to be summoned for. A momentary silence descended, as all turned to look at Setsuna waiting for her reply. Setsuna sighed and leaned against the sliding door. "I was afraid one of you would have asked this but I was hoping that of all the senshi it wouldn't be you Usagi. I'll try to explain as best as I can why it isn't possible to do what you have just suggested. The future has basically changed and the time paths are unstable to cross. I have tried but failed in my attempts to access stable time gates. Another thing that doesn't allow this to happen is that once a person's soul is separated from their body no matter at what time, it's already too late. Even if we were to prevent his death he would die some other way at approximately the same time." Setsuna explained. "How can Mamo-chan's death have happened when he was predestined to be king?" Usagi asked. "The future in which you saw and visited was one of the possibilities of the future, he died Usagi and there is no return from death" Setsuna softly replied. "Setsuna, we were all resurrected before! How about bringing him back to life?" Usagi trying to find another alternative. "When we were resurrected as you say we were reincarnated and given new bodies. The only reason the inner senshi lived on after the battle between you and Metallia is because of your ginzuishou. Understand that you were unconsciously holding their spirits back." "Why can't we have Mamoru-san reincarnated?" Makoto said reasoning and taking in the information that Setsuna was telling them. "Because he would be born as a baby!" Setsuna replied in exasperation beginning to wonder why Luna had never bothered to explain to the inner senshi about reincarnation principles. "Wait a second?Hotaru-chan is the age she was," Usagi said relentlessly not giving up easily. "Hotaru is a senshi, our heart crystals are different from all others. How many times do I have to tell you that? Why can't you accept Mamoru's death? Your foolish love for him caused internal conflicts and a loss of a beautiful future that never was? Why can't you stop thinking about yourself and begin to think of others." Setsuna snapped and looked at Usagi condescendingly. Setsuna knew it was mean and she knew that part of her anger came from being isolated in the realm where the gates of time were. If only Usagi had risen as queen in the era of the silver millennium and accepted a suitor who was acceptable to her mother. They would have all achieved their immortality. Only she knew the path that could have been taken, it had been a possibility, one that had never come to be. It had condemned her to stay in the lonely realm for hundreds of more years to guard the gates of time unable even to go to her own castle. "What the hell are you talking about?" Haruka muttered at Setsuna not understanding but too tired to argue. Haruka shifted her weight to her other foot so that Michiru would be more comfortable. Usagi didn't understand either but was hurt that Setsuna didn't approve of her love and that she had been called selfish. "You are nothing but a coward!" Usagi cried out not meaning what she said. Her emotions in turmoil she furiously brushed her tears away. "Is it that you are afraid of dying? I am not afraid to die. Do you hear me?" Usagi sobbed out her throat choking with tears. "Open the time gate Pluto, Usagi demanded. "I don't care if it's stable or not and I am not giving up without even trying!" Usagi said defiantly. Setsuna's face softened and she simply shook her head. Setsuna realized that her emotions were unjust and she shouldn't have blamed Usagi. Though it was unfair for her to have had a brief glimpse of happiness that she, Setsuna could have had so long ago. Setsuna realized that Usagi didn't understand and sighed thinking how blissful it would be to live in ignorance as normal people did. Usagi enraged looked at all the senshi waiting for their support and agreement with her to go through the time gate, no one did. "Usagi," Ami said moving forward to hug and comfort her friend. "No!" Usagi said moving out of Ami's reach, "I don't need your sympathy,"she yelled at Amu and looked at each one of them and ran out of the temple. "Baka," Rei cursed at the running figure. "Just shut up!" Makoto yelled at Rei sick of her attitude. Punching the wall closest to her in frustration. Rei and Makoto began to heatedly argue. The Outer senshi had left silently to consult each other in their own group of four. Not bothering to stay believing that the conflicts in the inner senshi should be resolved and left to the inner senshi. Minako kneeling on the floor held Artemis in her arms weeping. Ami stood by herself quietly not knowing what to do as she saw this scene. "Both of you shut-up!" Luna yelled at the two her claw lifted ready to smack the two with her paw. "Both of you want to help Usagi get through this ordeal but how do you plan to do that when you can't even get along with each other!" Luna said exasperated. "She's right," Minako said wiping away her tears and jumped up. "Let's go find Usagi." Minako said a glint of determination in her eyes. Usagi had returned to apologize to Setsuna for her rash outburst when she realized that the Outer senshi had already left. She began eaves-dropping wondering what they would say about her when she wasn?t there and also making sure they weren't mad at her. She was happy they still cared and decided to come in as the group of them decided to go after. Usagi went into a run to hug all her friends but tripped and ran head long into them. They all moaned in pain on the ground. "I didn't think you cared," Usagi said emotionally underneath them all. "Of course we do Usagi-chan," Makoto said and all girl nodded in agreement. "Uh sorry to break the moment but could you all please get off! You girls weigh a lot especially with Mina eating that chocolate cake yesterdaaay" Artemis wheezed out from beneath Usagi. "Artemis-chan" Minako gritted her teeth fire surrounding her. Artemis sweat dropped. "Now Minako-chan don't over react?"Artemis said now trying to hide underneath Usagi for protection no longer attempting to get free. "Aha! ha! ha! Aha! ha! ha!" laughed Usagi as Artemis frantic movements began to tickle her. ?I'll let you off Artemis since Usagi seems to have perked up and show my lovely smile? Minako thought. Everyone drew apart brushing dust from their clothes and they all happened to look at Minako exactly at the same time. They sweat dropped as they saw the knots of frustration and her so called ?lovely smile? seemed a mere baring of teeth. "I know what'll make you feel better," Minako addressed happily to Usagi. "Let's all go and grab something to eat!" Though Usagi nodded her head she didn't seem very excited. They all grabbed their money except for Usagi who had none. Chipping in, the group decided to treat Usagi but regretted it after five burgers and six milkshakes disappeared into the abyss of Usagi's mouth. Motoki served them their food, and noticed their booth was unusually quite and could not hear Usagi's constant chatter. "It was a good idea," Ami said encouragingly breaking the silence. "Thanks I thought so too," Usagi said. "I thought I had managed to accept his death but I guess I have a long way to go." "No matter how far you have to go, we'll be with you every step of the way," Rei said putting her hand over Usagi's. "Rei-chan," Usagi smiled touched by her friend's uncharacteristic kindness. * * * * Outside Haruka , Michiru, Setsuna, and Hotaru stood outside staring through the glass window. "They have a lot to learn?" Michiru softly said shaking her head at the view. "But not enough time," Haruka grimly finished what Michiru was about to say. They looked at each other and Michiru held her mirror in her hand and threw it in the air. The mirror floated and began to twirl so fast that it appeared to be nothing more than a silver ball in the air. An image of a something cloaked using red power and the evil laughter echoing in the night. The figure stood up and ran tossing the cloak off and revealing it's face. It was Setsuna and the objects she held were the gifts she had given to the senshi. "It was very risky for you to get the gifts, Setsuna mama" Hotaru said her purple eyes widened in admiration. "Yes it was," Setsuna replied, "let's hope it was worth it." "If our destiny is to fight on then so be it," Michiru said with finality in her voice. She held out her hand and the mirror slowly stopped spinning and the handle fell into her palm. Her right hand gripped her mirror and her left hand was curled into a tight fist. She had said the same words many times before. She had always hoped each time she said those words it could somehow be the last time she would ever have repeat them. "Do you think we can defeat this new enemy?" Haruka asked Setsuna pulling Michiru closer as she saw her partner was distressed. "I don't know," Setsuna whispered, "I really don't know at all?" The four walked away and slowly disappeared in the shadow of night. When they had left evil feminine laughter came and materialized looking through the window. "I've got you now," the voice whispered. * * * * "Tsukino, Usagi?" Mrs. Toshi said taking down the attendance. Not bothering to lift her head, for she knew there would be no reply. The students sat patiently and looked at their teacher form knots of frustration on her head. "Tsukino, Usagi?" the teacher repeated louder her voice a mixture of frustration and hope. All the students sighed knowing that Mrs. Toshi had been hoping that Usagi and the second student who was late would reform themselves and come on time for once. They could hear their teacher utter a silent curse and mutter to herself about what nuisances they were. Which was quite surprising for their teacher was known by her students and colleagues to be a sweet hearted and reasonable person. "Ah!Ah!Ah!Aieeeee!" screamed two voices in unison. "Nani?!?!?!" cried some students a bit uneasy at hearing the scream and people's gasps emanating from the hallway. A cloud of dust suddenly appeared in front of the door and two figures stepped out both hyperventilating. "Gomen-Nasai for being late," the two girls said together as they made their way to their friends. Though the students had seen this type of behaviour many times before it still managed to amuse them. "Usagi, Minako really?" Rei said embarrassed and annoyed by the two and attempted to hide her face so no one would know they were her friends. "Don't even start Rei," Minako and Usagi both said as they sat down and joined their friends who all bore sweat drops. "Well I hope you all enjoyed your break," the teacher said to the class ignoring the commotion and began to teach. Usagi's mind began to wander and her eyes closed. ?Time for a nap? she thought sleepily her eyes saw the door. "Masaka?"Usagi whispered to herself underneath her breath so quietly none of her friends could. " Mamo-Chan!" Usagi suddenly cried jumping out of her seat, seeing the image of her late boyfriend pass the door. "Nani? Usagi?" exclaimed Mrs. Toshi as her student cried out a name and ran out the door. All the students lifted their gazes from their books and gasped for this had never happened before. Rei, Minako, Makoto, and Ami all looked at each other concerned for their friend. They had all heard the hope in their voice and where the name held no meaning for the other students, the five of them understood exactly what was going on. "She's still hurting," Minako whispered looking off through the window. "Damn! Do you think we should go after her?" Makoto asked. "I think we all should go," Ami said and they all nodded their heads and asked the teacher if they could follow their friend. * * * * * * * Usagi ran down the hallway in pursuit of the figure she had seen flit by her classroom door. The sound of her feet, padding lightly on the black and white checkered tiles echoed throughout the empty hallway. ?could it be??she wondered to herself hope filling her heart. Usagi abruptly stopped where the hallway split into three. One of the paths were in the direction she had originally been taking, the other path was to her right and the last was to her left. Usagi clenched her hand into a fist and grit her teeth in frustration as she took the left. Although she had been explained last night why exactly her fiancé £ould not come back to life she didn't care. ?Perhaps I unconsciously healed him with the Ginzuishou? her mind thought desperately. Tears blurred her vision her hope turning into heart wrenching pain as she couldn't find her Mamo-chan. She began to sink to her knees barely hearing the quick steps approaching her. "Usagi-chan?" a voice queried. Usagi looked up to see a familiar face she knew but was not looking for. Usagi ran into his arms sobbing and buried her face in the crook of his shoulder. "Oh Seiya," she brokenly said her face buried in his shoulder. Seiya shocked looked down at her and autmoatically closed his arms around her shivering frame. Seiya tenderly hugged Usagi who was clinging to him as though he were her only salvation. Although he was extremely intent and concerned for Usagi he couldn't help but wonder what the hell was going on?
