Darkness was falling with the otherworldliness of a bittersweet night. Darien watched as the moon rose to it's full splendor behind a backdrop of a starlit horizon while waiting patiently for his flight to descend. In just ten minutes, he'd have arrived back in Tokyo. After that, he'd find Serena. He was sure of it. Darien remained silent but all around him was the excited buzz of the passengers. "Passengers, we have now arrived in Tokyo, Japan!" the loud speaker announced. A clap of thunder greeted him as Darien stepped out onto the cool damp night air outside Tokyo airport. It was raining, a light drizzle that dampened his hair. He was cold, but he started walking. Darien didn't know where he was going, but he was sure that in time, the link that he and Serena share soon bring him to her. She was near, he could sense it. But where? Finally he found them. *************************************************************************** "Darien..." Serena repeated again. She looked up at the moon, hanging so high in the sky and thought of life back in the Moon Kingdom. Had life ever been this hard to live? She wondered. "Serena?" It was Seiya. She'd been in thought so deeply that she'd forgotten his presence totally. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Serena said at last. "By the way, who are you?" Seiya chuckled. "I guess i weren't as famous as i thought i was." Serena wrinkled her forehead "Famous?" Seiya laughed aloud this time and held out his hands for her to shake "I'm Seiya Kou. Lead singer of the Three Lights." Serena gaped at him. "You mean, you're Seiya Kou? THE SEIYA KOU?" He smiled. "The one and only." Serena shook her head in awe. "i can't believe this." she muttered to herself. Suddenly another clap of thunder shook the sky above and Serena screamed. And somehow, when she dared to look up again, Seiya was holding her. Than she saw something else. A tall dark figure on the other side of the road. A figure that stood, transfixed-staring seemingly at her. "Darien?" She whispered softly. Than she began to shout when she realized that she had been right. It was Darien. But how? Surely he was in America. "Darien!" She shouted again, louder this time. And she was sure he heard her. And yet, he was turning away from her. Serena watched in bewilderment as he disappeared behind the shadows of a tall building. "Sorry." Serena muttered, pushing herself away from him, than without saying goodbye. Leaving behind a very bewildered SEiya. Serena began to run after that lonely figure that could only be Darien. "Darien!" She shouted again as she tried to get between the thinning traffic and onto the outside of the road. "Watch it Serena!" Seiya screamed at her, as a car skidded dangerously close to Serena's long skirt. Her heart pounding so furiously in her chest that she feared it would burst, Serena continued to run until the sound of traffic existed only in the distance and now, only the echoed her tortured breathing. "Darien? Where are you?" She shouted and listened as the resounding echoes bounced back at her. "Darien! Look, I'm sorry!" She yelled, thinking of her unexpected embrace with Seiya. Suddenly she slipped on the cold wet ground and crashed to the ground. "Oww." She moaned, quietly to herself as she struggled to pick herself up again. Now was no time to be a klutz. "Darien!!!" She screamed again. "I've come to see you again, Serenity..." A voice floated in through the darkness. Serena gasped and spun around. The voice was the exact same voice of the man who had attacked her earlier on that week. "Who's there?" Serena shouted. "Who are you?" Her voice breaking a bit in the end, as fear crept into her heart. *Darien, where are you?* A tall, thin shadow emerged from the darkness and the man in black appeared. His face was still hidden behind a dark face mask which covered the upper part of his face. (think tuxedo mask) "You don't remember me, do you?" he said finally. Serena shook her head slowly "No..." her voice trailed off. For some uncanny reason, the scent she sensed from him was similar to Darien's, yet the feeling was different. "My name is Elfanmion." He took a step closer to Serena. Gasping, Serena took a step back and felt the wall behind her. Oh god, who was this man who claims to be Elfanmion? What did he want from her? And how could he have possibly known their identity. It was all of a puzzle. "Get away from her!" A voice suddenly shouted from behind a wall of darkness. Darien! Serena realized, recognizing the voice as the person she trusted most in the world. She turned towards the direction of the sound and tried to escape, but Elfanmion pulled her even closer to him. And like so many times before, she was terrified. Tuxedo mask stepped out. Trying hard to avoid glancing into Serena's pleading eyes. He'd seen them. Serena warm in an intimate embrace with that young man. He knew he should trust Serena, and yet just allowing himself to forget such a scene was more than he could handle. Yet now, forget or not, his princess was in danger and he'd do anything to protect her. "Darien!" Serena screamed. Trying to pull loose of Elfanmion magnetic hold on her. With one gesture of his hands, Tuxedo mask made a rose in the air, he held it pointed towards the imposter "Let go of her." he said in a low, yet commanding voice. Elfanmion did not waver "Don't you remember me, Endymion?" Than he shook his head and laughed when Tuxedo Mask showed no sign of recognition whatsoever. "I should have known you wouldn't remember me either, Brother." he said. Serena gasped, and Tuxedo mask took a step back. "Brother?" Tuxedo mask gasped. His voice was low. He shook his head. "No. I don't have a brother." he said. Suddenly, Serena felt Elfanmion let go of her and watched as he moved towards Tuxedo mask. He didn't stop until they were face to face. Both piercing blue eyes glaring at each other through the holes in their masks and both of equal heights. "Twins." Elfanmion said at last. Tuxedo mask didn't move. "Twins." Elfanmion repeated again "We were twins. Endy." Tuxedo mask shook his head in disbelieve. "No." he said "No." louder this time, as he tried to stop the reality from entering his life. This man, in front of him was his twin. His blood, and yet how much could he trust him? He had tried to hurt Serena. Had tried to take her away from him. And why was he never a part of his memory until now? "Because you didn't want to remember me. Because i was the fragments of your memories-" He looked at both Serena and Tuxedo mask. "That you wanted to shut out." Serena shook her head "It-it doesn't make sense. Were you a part of the moon kingdom too?" Elfanmion chuckled bitterly "I don't think so, Serenity." He said looking straight at Serena. "I was the bad twin. The one no body wanted." He looked at Tuxedo Mask this time. "You were the heir to the throne on Earth, you had everything. In my early years, i tried to understand why god had given you everything when all my life I'd had nothing. I tried to understand why my life had turned out the way it had when your life had blossom sentimentally into a red rose." He paused. "Do you know why, Endymion?" He didn't wait for an answer. "Because i was the unwanted twin. They weren't ready for another boy. They wanted you, and only you because only one successor could become the king and that was you." Tuxedo mask shook his head "I wouldn't have taken the throne if you'd wanted it." he said. Elfanmion took a step closer "You took more than the throne away, Endymion. You took Serenity away." He looked at Serena and Tuxedo Mask "Don't forget me. I'll be back." Than he disappeared behind a flourish of black roses. Neither Serena nor Tuxedo Mask spoke after that as his transformation slowly dissolve and he returned back to Darien. "Darien..." Serena began at last. He reached out to touch his arms, but he shook his hands away. "Darien!" Serena cried. Surprised and hurt at his reaction. Tears brimmed at the corner of her eyes, threatening to fall. "Don't start the water works now, Serena. It's not going to work this time." He said. He allowed himself a daring glance into Serena's tear filled eyes and almost wavered. But once again, he made himself look away and the pain relapsed into his heart again. The tears fell, running it's course down Serena's cheeks "I love you, Darien. Please don't do this to us!" she cried, trying to cling helplessly onto Darien's arms "Darien-" He shook her away "No, Serena! I don't want to talk about this. I don't want to remember what i saw just then by the crossing." his voice was low but steady. "He was no one, Darien! I don't even really know who he is!" Serena cried, exasperated. Looking into Serena's pleading eyes, Darien could almost make himself forget what he saw, and yet his heart wouldn't allow him such satisfaction. He'd thought a thousand years had been enough to secure any obstacle they would counter. Had he been wrong? "Serena, you don't know how much i wanted to believe you, but my eyes won't lie, i understand if you wanted a change-Let's leave the past where it belongs. Go-goodbye Serena." He said, his voice evident with pain. Then he turned and ran, out of the alleyway and into the solitary main street. "Darien! Wait-" Serena shouted, but he was gone already. She started to run after him when a sudden pain in her chest prevented her from doing so. "Damn it!" she groaned, crutching over in pain. She watched as Darien's figure became smaller and smaller in the distance as he ran. *I've hurt him* Serena realized *He came all the way back from America because of me, and I've hurt him* Oh Darien. Picking herself up again; trying to ignore the pounding pain in her chest, Serena half ran and half stumbled after the only person she'd ever cared so much for. ***************************************************************************** Darien ran and ran. The bright lights of Tokyo blinked back at him like a blurred imagery. He didn't know where he was running to, only knew that he must run away from the pain that was trapped like a caged beast inside his heart. Rain began to fall again, as the moon rose to it's peak over the heart of Tokyo. He wanted to scream, but knew no sound would come out of his mouth. He'd been to used to keeping his feelings hidden deep inside, at the bottom of his heart. When Serena had been there, he'd never had much trouble with concealing his feelings from her. Yet now... God had not been kind to him. All his life, Darien had known of nothing but the emptiness of being alone, of coming back home everyday, with only the moon for company. When Serena had stumbled into his life-from the very moment she threw that test at his head and called him a conceited jerk, he'd known that the ditzy meatball head was the one for him. Fate had proved his heart's desire, they'd been destined to love for centuries to come. Yet now, nothing would ever be the same again. "Darien!" It was Serena. He hadn't realized she could run so fast. Without even turning around to glance at Serena, Darien began picking up speed again. "Darien! Please don't!" She called after him. "Don't do this to me!" Her voice echoed in the cold darkness of the street. The rain continued to fall. ************************************************************************** "Darien..." Serena gasped and watched as Darien's footsteps began to fasten it's pace. "I'm sorry..." Running across the slippery road intersection of quite street, Serena didn't see the sleek dark Holden swerve dangerous across the slippery road, heading straight for the tiny figure of her body. Before she could scream though, someone lunged at her and push her to the side of the road, just as the car halted to a stop and an angry driver shouted "Watch where you're going, kid!" He shook his head "Young kids, these days. They never learn." Shaking the dirt off her skirt, and pained by all this exhaustion, Serena picked herself up and looked up at the person who had rescued her from certain death. It was Jack. "Serena!" he gasped, "What did you think you were doing!" Serena shook her head miserably "Darien...I have to find him...I have to explain..." she gasped, half falling into Jack's arms as a jolt of pain shot through her body and centered in her chest. "Serena!" he cried-dropping the books she'd been about to return back to the library onto the ground-and struggled to help her stand. "Are you alright?" Serena nodded, her heart blinded by Darien's departing words. *Let's leave the past where it belongs. Go-goodbye Serena.* He'd meant it. She realized. Those centuries upon centuries they'd been together had failed to secure his heart of her trust. "I'll be alright." She said at last. No matter what happens, no matter how painful the pain inside her chest was. She had to find Darien. She'd lost him once three years ago, she couldn't lose him again. Than pushing past Jack, she continued her search as before. "Serena! Wait!" Jack shouted after her. Behind her, she heard Jack picking up his pace and running after her. He soon caught up with her and grabbed her arms, swinging her around to face him. "Are you crazy, Serena!" he shouted "You're in no shape to run!" He shook her violently. Suddenly he was angry. "Darien is not going to appreciate you anymore than all that you've already done for him!" A hip cupping sob escaped Serena's mouth, trembling she let herself slide free of Jack's supporting arms and slid onto the wet ground. "I just don't know what to do." She sobbed quietly. Jack kneeled down beside her. "Everything will be alright, trust me-" Suddenly a terribly rumbling filled the sky, as another sound of thunder grumbled through the heart of Tokyo. But before Serena could even scream, another sound filled the earth and of one much more horrible than a clap of thunder. A dense dark cloud formed meters from Serena and Jack's frozen figures. Rising, it shifted and morphed into the beginning of a sinister being. Serena realized what it was immediately. A monster and a powerful one at that. She could tell even before the monster had successfully shifted into it's full form. "Move, Jack. Get out of here!" Serena shouted, pushing him towards the side of the road and at the same time reaching into her pocket to take out her locket-ready for transformation. "Are you sure you'll be alright?" he asked. He wasn't worried about his safety, he knew he could get away safely without a scratch. Serena was the one here who needs worrying about. He knew she had still not recovered from that blow to her chest, and after the exhausting night she'd just had, Jack knew as a fact that Serena was in no shape to fight. "Just leave it to me, Jack." Than watching as Jack disappeared behind a nearby wall. Serena transformed. MOON CRYSTAL POWER!!! ********************************************************************************* "ARgghhhhhh." Darien groaned as he felt a sudden pain pierce his skull. *Serena's in danger!* He realized, recognizing the strong link between them that was so often evident in times of danger. *Serena! I'm coming!* End of Chapter 7------------------------------------------------------------ What will the arrival of this new monster bring? Jack's identity is revealed!!! Jack's past and other stuff in the next chapter! Phew! This chapter took me pretty long. It was pretty hard to write, to tell you the truth. Anyway, so sorry. This chapter isn't as good as I'd promise it will be, but i hope i do better next time.
