It had been an exhausting day, for the senshis and for them. So many secrets to find out, so many new facts to learn- and most of all the unbelievable fact that their daughter was infact the legendary Sailormoon who had protected Tokyo and perhaps the rest of the world from foreign evil. Now, Ilene watched as the overhanging moon shone outside, it's long beams of moonlight filtered through the window and onto the bedroom floor. "It's unbelievable, isn't it." Ilene said, breaking the silence between her husband and she. "To think that, Serena is Sailormoon." Kent nodded and turned to face his wife "I guess with Serena in our lives, we'll just have to accept the impossible." Ilene smiled to herself and became silent again as she admired the moon outside. "The moon's so beautiful tonight." She said at last, breaking the silence. "They said, one thousand years ago, Serena was the princess of the moon." Kent didn't say anything, yet a feeling of fulfillment as well as fear suddenly overwhelmed Kent's system and suddenly he realized how proud he was with Serena. God knows how many times she'd died trying to save earth and her friends. And yet, there was the fear. Victorilia's words had been clear and however much he didn't understand the situation that had unfolded before his eyes. He was certain of one thing. Without a suitable Cure, Serena would die. *Your family and friends shall live today only because i know you will die within due time* Still Kent didn't speak. "I'm so proud of her, Kent." Ilene continued "Really i am, the speed at which she'd grown up, her responsibility and-" she stopped when she realized her husband wasn't responding to her. She touched him gently on the shoulders "What's the matter?" Uneasiness crept slowly into her mind. Kent sighed and looked at his wife with tears in his eyes. "I don't believe you have forgotten what Victorilia had said about Serena." Tears gathered at the corner of Ilene's eyes as she remembered what Victorilia had said. Serena would die, that had been her leaving words. God, why did he had to bring it up again? When she had tried so hard to forget- for how could any mother accept the fact that her daughter would die within one month. "Oh Kent! Why must you say such unnecessary things?" She cried, the tears pooling in her eyes, but she wouldn't let them fall yet, not if they made her reluctant thoughts true. Kent sighed again. "We're going to have to face this together, for Serena and for us-the day will come." he said slowly. "I don't want her to die Kent." Ilene said softly and at last the tears fell. Tears formed in Kent's eyes and he blinked them away. "Neither do I, Ilene." he said "Neither do I. We both love her too much to see her die." Ilene was angry. "Than why must she? Goddammit Kent, she's our daughter! How can she die? She's too young!" The angry tears continued too fall and yet, far beyond the anger was the fear. She couldn't bear it if she lost her only daughter. Kent shook her head. "I don't know, Ilene. I really don't know." he was defeated. 38 years and he couldn't protect his own daughter. "I just don't know what to do anymore. Not since today have i realized just how much we have underestimated Serena and the other kids. They've done so much for the world and yet no one knows." "Destiny has been cruel to her." Ilene said softly as fresh tears fell from her eyes. Why must it be her daughter who was forced to face such fate. Kent nodded. "But when destiny fails you and circumstances surrender, what can mankind do?" he whispered bitterly. He sighed and look at the illuminated clock. "We must get some sleep. There's still many tomorrows for us to face." He paused and looked at his wife. "We must be strong for Serena and the others who fight to protect us." ************************************************************************* The next day, school was out before Serena could even remember what she had done in first period. Reluctant as her parents were to letting her go to school again just after yesterday's battle, they had to agree that their daughter's education was important, even if she was going to become the future queen of Crystal Tokyo. "Serena!" a voice called from behind her. Serena turned around to find the familiar figure of Seiya approaching. There was an expression of relief on his face. "Thank god, you're alright." He said as he approached her. "I was afraid the monsters may have hurt you or something." Serena sighed and shook her head gently "No. The Sailor Senshi's came and saved us. Everyone's fine." she said and turned to leave, she didn't want the last incidence to repeat itself. Seiya nodded, Satisfied with her answer and Serena breathed a sigh of relief that he had bought her story. "Hey listen, i was just wondering if you and your friends would like to go to the skating rink with me and the other lights." He asked, there was hope in his voice. Serena was unsure. "Well...I don't think that would be such a good idea..." Her voice trailed off. "Of course, we'll go!" A high shrill voice came from behind her. Serena recognized it immediately. Mina. *Here comes trouble...* SErena sighed and watched as Mina skipped over with Lita and Amy. "We'll go, won't we girls." Mina turned around to face the other girls, than she wrapped her arms around Serena's arms and pulled her forward "And so will Serena." she said brightly. Serena protested "Mina, I don't think-" she began. "It'll be fun, Serena." Amy said. Lita nodded. "It'll be a nice, break." She looked at the other girls. "We'll need it." Her mind returned to Victorilia and her words. There would be no hope for SErena or the future if a cure doesn't surface, yet now the first thing they needed was a break before the ultimate fight began. "But-" Serena protested. She didn't care about a break, she wanted the other girls to have fun but there was one person on her mind. How would Darien respond to all this? A date with the famous lights. Amy sensed Serena's thoughts. She turned to SEiya. "Can Darien come?" Seiya paused. He didn't want Darien to come, of course he didn't and yet he knew Serena wouldn't come unless he does. She and Darien's feelings for each other reached deeper than he had ever dared to imagine. Finally he shrugged. "Sure. Why not? Jack can come too if you like. It'll be our big night out." Serena was still uncertain, yet already she felt her heart weakening. "Well..." "Come on Serena, it would be a great night." Seiya said. Serena nodded. "Alright." she said finally. Let's hope the night would be peaceful... ************************************************************************ Serena, Darien, Jack and the other girls arrived at the skating rink early the next evening. The place wasn't too crowded, perfect for some good routines on the ice. It had been a long time since she had last skated, yet the memories of her days with Darien and their fun on ice still lived in her mind. Princess Serenity had been a great skater and Serena hoped to relive that glory. Inside, the whole rink was illuminated with multicolored lights. Pink, purple, blue, green and yellow shadows were splashed onto the icy floor and the people on it. "Darien." Serena turned around to face Darien who was walking with heavy steps behind her. "I'm sorry i forced you to come." Darien sighed, smiled than shook his head "No. It's okay, you didn't force me. I came to be with you." he said. Serena smiled. "Thanks, Darien. You're the best." She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him gently on the lips. Darien smiled back at her. If there was one thing he could do for her, it was to make her happy. "Where are they, by the way! Don't tell me they're late." Serena complained as she searched through the sea of people for the three lights. Jack sighed "If you're that inpatient Sis, than why don't you and Darien go out and skate while we wait." he smiled. "I've heard legends that you two were pretty good in your days." He said and winked at Darien. Serena grinned suddenly. "Hey, That's a great idea!" She looked up at Darien. "Please, muffin." and made an attempt to pull him towards the icy floor. Darien finally relaxed and chuckled light heartily at the recognition of Serena's nickname for him "Alright, meatball head. Let's go!" he said as he took Serena's hands in his and they skated in unison towards the center of the floor. Raye watched as they went. Their hands intertwined and the love written all over their faces. Inside her heart cried silently. Beside her, Jack moved closer and placed his hands on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" he asked as he watched the expressions on Raye's face. She was a strong girl, he'd known that from the beginning. Those fiery eyes and that raven black hair. She had the passion and guts he'd always admired. Raye shrugged. "Sure. Why not." she threw him a careless smile and turned away. Oh Darien, she thought. Have you ever loved me? *********************************************************************** Squealing, Serena laughed as Darien lifted her body up in his arms and spun her around and around on the ice. At last though, he let her down gently on the ground and kissed her gently on the lips. "Mmm...you smell nice." Serena whispered, ignoring the swarms of people surrounding them. Darien smiled. "You look beautiful tonight-like you always are." he looked down at fingers where the ring he gave her still glistened. "I'm glad you still have it on." he touched the ring gently with his fingers. Serena smiled, "Of course, i still have it on. You gave it to me." her voice was soft. Darien chuckled softly. "Okay." he looked around at the emptying floor; most people were leaving the skating rink for other offers the night would bring. "Come on, let's relive our old days." he grinned and all of a sudden without giving Serena any further notice, he lifted her off the and launched her in a triple twist across the air. (Mind you, i don't know anything about ice skating so I'm just making this up. Don't flame me!) "Darien! You..." She began squealing but her voice trailed in her throat as she realized that she was completing a routine that was well known for it's complexity and it's grace with great ease. "Darien!" She cried with excitement in her voice as she landed again. "Did you just see that?" "You did great, meatball head!" Darien replied, he skated closer to her. "Now would you do that routine with me?" Serena looked unsure. "But I'm not sure if I could do anymore?" Her Voice trailed off, than looking around at her grinning friends and the Encouraging smells from Darien. She nodded although she wasn't sure as to which level her skills would take her. "The hell with it. Alright Darien, for you." And for the next 10 minutes they relived their famous steps and the admiration they had received from many onlookers. "Wow." Lita said from the bench where she'd been watching. "Serena and Darien is really excellent at this. No wonder they were known as the best skaters across the Silver Millennium." Amy laughed "They're good, alright." She smiled to herself. "I've never seen this side of our princess before." Mina laughed. "You mean with her usual klutzy attacks and stuff?" Raye turned around. "She's changed a lot." And hearing this, the other girls and Jack watched along with several onlookers to the beautiful couple on the icy floor as they performed routine after routine. "Was she really like this on the moon?" Jack asked suddenly after watching his sister display a grace he'd never known she had. Lita laughed. "Let's say she was even better than this." Suddenly three voice came up behind them "Hi, sorry we're late. Car problem." Seiya began as the others made their greetings at the instantly love sick girls. Yet even as he struggled to pull Amy off his arms he noticed two skaters in the middle of the skating rink. "Serena..." He whispered. *And Darien* he thought as he recognized the tall figure skating with Serena and instantly without revising what he should say as a greeting, he skated gracefully out onto the middle of the floor to interrupt the two lovers. At that very moment as Seiya was approaching, unaware of his presence Darien lifted Serena off the floor and launched her into a series of spins in the direction of Seiya. Serena, seeing him at the last minute halted herself enough to avoid a serious collision but couldn't prevent the impact as her body crashed into Seiya and sent them both crashing onto the icy floor. Serena's head slammed against the floor while she felt herself landing on a firm body which helped to break the fall her body would have had with the rest of the hard ground. For a moment stars appeared infront of her eyes and Serena blacked out momentarily. When her vision cleared again it was to find herself laying on top of Seiya. Time stopped as they both stared at each other bewildered, Serena could feel her cheeks turning bright red. Her she was in the middle of a crowded not to mention highly popular skating rink lying like a dead corpse on top of Seiya. "Seiya!" Serena exclaimed as she struggled to pull herself away from his body. Darien was by her side as once to help her up. "Are you okay, meatball head?" Darien asked in a concerned tone as he brushed the excess ice off her skirt. Serena nodded shakily. "I'm okay Darien. Don't worry about me." She looked down at Seiya who was helping himself up as the other girl, jack and the two other lights rushed to them. "I'm sorry Seiya, are you hurt?" Before Seiya could reply though, Darien stepped forward; fury written all over his face. "What did you think you were doing? You could have both gotten seriously hurt!" he shouted as Serena tried to pull him back. He didn't know why he was so angry, perhaps because he was jealous of Seiya. Here Seiya was, a popular good looking male who could offer Serena the whole world while all he could was get Serena hurt. "Look." There was fury in Seiya's voice as well. "Was it my fault that you launched her off like that when you could see that I was obviously coming in your direction." "What's happening?" Yaten asked as he arrived beside Seiya. "Err..guys?" Mina put in as he noticed the mad expression on both Darien and Seiya's face. Seiya and Darien ignored all these as they continued to glare at each other, oblivious of the questions that were being thrown at them. Suddenly, Darien felt a tug at his shirt. "Please, Darien. Don't let this get any worse than it's already getting." Serena whispered, tears brimming in her eyes, she hated it when people fight. And particular when it comes to Darien, god no, not Darien. "If you'd watched where you were going than none of this would have happened." Darien said finally. He knew how Serena hated it when people fight. The fury continued to shone in Seiya's eyes. He didn't know why, it wasn't like him to get so hot over such a thing and yet suddenly all he wanted to do was bash the shit out of Serena's boyfriend-and he did just that. Before Darien could even react to what was happening, Seiya reached out and suddenly pushed Darien-hard, Darien loosing his balance fell with a hard thump onto the icy floor. "Darien!" Serena ran to his side and helped him up "Are you alright?" She turned a glaring eye at Seiya, finally she was angry. "What did you do that for?" she asked angrily, to her surprised though, she felt Darien pushing her behind him. "Leave it to me, Serena." The anger was boiling inside him, tonight it was he and Seiya's fight. "Look." Jack began as he saw the horrified look in his sister's eyes. "Just stop it, okay. Cut it out." He tried to make his voice commanding but he could see that when two guys both have their eyes on one girl, it was their fight-no one was going to stop them. Seiya looked at him "Stay out of this, Jack." Than again, with the element of surprise on his hands, he struck out at Darien with his left hand, hitting him on the left side of his face. Darien staggered back and immediately a bruise began forming. "Darien!" Serena ran to his side but he quickly pushed her away and charged straight at Seiya who dodged, but not enough. Darien was a good fighter, as was Seiya but unlike Darien Seiya did not have the gift of agility and Darien's punch landed across his nose and he sprawled in a heap across the ice. "Stop it!" Serena screamed. By now, the fighting in the middle of the skating rink had drawn considerable attention and security guards were fast approaching. They pushed through the crowd and charged at the two skaters to stop their fighting. Seiya continued to kicked out at Darien as the guards struggled to pull them both apart. "Look, I don't know what you two guys are doing. I only know that this is a public leisure center. Any unfinished business between you two should be dealt with outside." One of the security guards said. Taiki stepped forward. "I'm sorry, guard. We'll leave." ************************************************************************* The minute Serena, Darien, Jack, and the others stepped out into the cool night air of the early evening, the anger inside Serena burst. "Damn you, Darien! What did you think you were doing?" Serena screamed at him, tears burning in her eyes. "I thought you cared about me? You know I don't like fighting! I never did!" The tears were spilling down her face. Darien glared at Seiya. "You should ask him." Seiya opened his mouth to speak but Serena interrupted him "I should ask both of you! That was a totally unnecessary thing you did back there." She turned away from both Darien and Seiya as fresh tears rolled down her face "Just leave me alone-both of you." And with that, she turned and ran towards the open road and into the main street. "Serena!" Seiya called as he watched her disappear behind the corner, than he too started running after her. "Lord...I have never seen Serena so angry before." Lita gasped as she looked wide eyed at her companions. Mina shook her head "Neither have I." Darien remained where he was, staring as the running Seiya disappeared around the corner following Serena. Beside him, he felt Amy give him a nudge. "Well, aren't you going to go after her, or are you going to let-" she indicated at the direction where Seiya had disappeared "Go after her?" Jack nodded his head. "You don't want to loose her, do you?" Darien shook his head. No. There was no way he was going to loose Serena again, than turning he began running towards the direction both Serena and Seiya had gone... ********************************************************************* Serena was still running, the hopeless tears burning in her eyes when Seiya suddenly reached out and grabbed her hand, spinning her around to face him. "Wait, Serena. I want to talk to you-It's about us-" he began. Serena, hoping it had been Darien concealed her disappointment when she saw that it was Seiya. She shook her head. "There's nothing to talk about, Seiya" She said. Seiya groaned in exasperation "Look, I'm sorry about tonight Serena. I know i ruined the whole night for you-I'm sorry." he apologized. Serena shook her head. "I just didn't want to see either of you hurt." she turned away from him and sighed deeply "Anyhow, it doesn't matter now, I'm okay. I-I just wanted some time alone." Seiya nodded. Trying to understand, than again the question he'd always wanted to ask floated into his mind. "About us-" "No." Serena interrupted him. "There's nothing to talk about, for god's sake Seiya. I've only got one boyfriend and his name is Darien Shields. No one else can take his place away from my heart." Seiya nodded. He understood. Of course he did, but how could he let go of a girl like Serena. She was the only girl who had ever touched his heart so deeply and completely. It was fate. "Can't you give me a chance?" Seiya asked finally, softly. Serena shook her head. "You don't understand all the obstacles Darien and i had gone through to stay together. I can't abandon such a beautiful love, i love him, he loves me-i don't want anything to change. Do you understand, Seiya?" She knew the words were harsh and yet Seiya's words had shakened her. She cared for him. Yes. He was a dear friend, to them time had never been an invisible barrier. She knew him and liked him, but he wasn't Darien. He would never be Darien. Seiya nodded. "I guess I lost from the very beginning." he said softly and turned away before Serena could see how hurt he really was. Serena shook her head "That's not it. None of this was ever your problem, you are one of the best kinds of guys i've ever seen. Believe me Seiya, there's tons of girls better than me out in this small world." She said. Seiya smiled slightly, it was just like Serena to be so modest and say such things. "No, Serena. No one can ever take your place away from my heart." Serena felt her face growing hot with embarassment "I-" Seiya held out his hand "I understand, Serena. You don't have to say anything else." He turned around to face Serena. Her pale skin was lit up by the full moon behind her and at that moment Seiya realized how beautiful and absolutely exotic Serena was. Almost like a goddess. "I'm sorry i met you so late Serena." He hushed Serena as she opened her mouth to speak again "One kiss Serena, that's all i ask for." he whispered. Serena gaped at him. "Seiya..You know i can't-I-i love Darien..." Her voice broked as her heart remained pounding at Seiya's words. *One kiss Serena, that's all i ask for* Seiya looked embarass. "I-I'm sorry i asked that. I know i shouldn't have. I'm sorry." He turned away from her, his face flaming with embarrassment. Why did he say that? Why did he ask such a question when he knew the answer would be "no"? He was becoming more and more human. Serena looked at Seiya, at the look of defeat on his face and reluctantly sympathy crept into her heart. Could she really do it? Kiss a man she didn't love? She sighed but her mind was made up, before Seiya could probably react she leaned over and kissed him lightly on the lips. One sweet kiss.
