Title: Part of You and Me - Chapter 1 Author: Blue Ice E-mail: Blue_IceSM@hotmail.com Rated: (PG.) Hi everybody! I'm so glad that I'm finished with all these projects from school. I had about five of them at the same time and dued the same week. It was pretty hectic. But, anyway, now that I finally have some time off, I can sit down and write some fanfics. This story is about Darien and Serena. Heck, every story I write is about them. I was daydreaming one day and somehow came up with the basic idea of this fanfic. I hope you'll like it. So, send me an e-mail when you're done reading. Thanks! Andrew's POV So it's Sunday afternoon and I'm practically bored to death. The arcade is swarmed with kids. You'd think I'd be running around excited about all the business, but it's never the same without Serena and her gang. As if it's ironic, they walked right in. "Hi Andrew!" came the usual cheery voices. "Hey girls! I was a little worried that you wouldn't show. But I should have known better." I smiled as they gathered at the counter. "Sorry we're late, but there was a mishap at the temple." Mina cast a sly smile at Rei, as she in return gave Mina a glare. "Alright, alright. Hum, anyway." Mina coughed slightly. "Since summer vacation is coming up shortly." She began as the girls squealed. "I think we should take a trip to the beach." at that, the girls gave each other knowing looks. "So, are you in?" Lita asked me. I shrugged. "Beats working here." The girls smiled and I could tell they were excited. Why do I have to be so attractive? Suddenly I glanced to my right and noticed Serena being unusually quiet. "Is something wrong?" I asked her. "No, not really. I'm just tired." She smiled slightly. "Ok, but if you need someone to talk to, you know where to reach me." I assured her. Serena's been like a little sister to me since we first became friends. Wow, it was at least a couple of years ago. I turned my attention back to the other four girls and listened to them chat about the beach trip. Occasionally, Serena would add a comment here and there. But I could tell something was on her mind. I didn't want to push her since she didn't volunteer to tell me. "Do you think you can drive your car. I don't think Chad can fit everyone in his." Rei asked me. I smiled. "Sure." "So, then that's settled. I think this is going to be a great summer." Rei sighed. "It's so great being part of this group. Can you guys imagine how it would be if we never met each other?" Lita asked. All the girls became silent, each thankful of their friendship. Automatically, I thought of Darien. He really didn't have many friends. An idea came to me just then. "Hey, would you mind if I brought someone with me?" I asked. "You mean a girl?" they asked simultaneously. "Eh, not quite. It's uh, it's a good friend of mine." Serena's head popped up immediately when I said that. "That depends on who it is." Mina eyed me suspiciously. Honestly, I'm not bringing a girl! Just when I was about to answer her, the subject of our talk walked right into the caf鮠"Hey Darien! Over here!" I hollered. He smiled, but then became a little hesitant when he saw who was sitting at the counter. Serena, at the same time, became bright red. You see a sign here? Coughing slightly, he made his way over to us. "You mean Darien?" Ami asked, finally speaking up. "Well? If you don't mind." I replied. "Hum, let me see." Mina hopped off the stool as she circled Darien once or twice. "Ok, I feel like I'm being investigated here. Could someone tell me why I'm all of a sudden the center of attention?" I chuckled and shook my head. "Ok, he's in." Mina smiled and hopped back on the stool. "I'm in what?" Darien asked again. "We were just planning something to do over the summer. The girls decided to go to the beach during summer vacation." I replied as Darien nodded. "Thanks for asking, but I have to prepare for school in the fall." He replied. Serena looked down, a little disappointed. "Good, I'm glad you won't be joining us." She said, her voice half sounding serious and half a bit shaky. Darien seemed surprised at first, but then recovered quickly. "I could say the same, Meatball head. I have better things to do than spend an entire weekend with you." He retorted. Oh no, not again. Must we go through this every time they meet? "Yeah? Well you're not much of a person to hang out with. I don't think I've ever met anyone more boring. I'd rather read my chemistry book." Serena yelled, her face firing up. "Oh, look at that. Just wasted two minutes of my time. I really should get going. Could you get me a coffee to go?" Darien asked me casually, ignoring Serena's last statement. "Sure." I said as I poured him a cup. "See you around." He waved before leaving the caf頡nd our enraged Meatball Head. Serena sighed deeply as she laid her head down exasperatedly. "What was that about?" Rei asked. "And this time, Darien wasn't the one who started the insults." She looked at Serena wonderingly. "Well, I, I guess ....I don't know." Serena sighed again as she looked down to her folded hands. "Since we're going to argue soon or later, we might as well get it over with." I chuckled slightly when she said that. "I don't think Darien was going to say anything today. Really Serena, you should think before you just start something that could have been prevented." Ami lectured. "Ami! This is not like a nuclear meltdown. It's just something we got into the habit of doing. What else am I suppose to do if he doesn't, if he doesn't ...." Serena started stuttering. "If he doesn't what?" Lita gestured for her to go on. "Oh never mind. It's nothing." She shrugged. "So, about our beach trip. Let's make it on the Saturday of the first week of summer vacation. My uncle has a beach house there. We can stay the night till Sunday." Mina suggested. "Really? A beach house? I've always wanted to stay in one." Serena chirped in, suddenly becoming happy. I shook my head slightly. What on earth could she be so secretive about? Narrator's POV Serena woke up excitedly on Saturday morning. "First day of summer vacation. Three months without school, homework, or teachers. What can be better than this?" Stretching lazily, Serena got out of bed. For once, she made her bed. "Serena, honey! You better hurry up and eat breakfast. The girls are going to be here shortly!" Irene hollered from the kitchen. "Coming mom!" Serena hollered back and made her way to the bathroom. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and frowned. "So alone." She said softly to herself. Not wanting to get depressed, she put on a bright smile and rushed down stairs. "Good morning, sweetheart." Ken smiled as he unfolded the morning paper. "Good morning daddy." Serena smiled, pecking his cheek softly. "Hey Sammy." She greeted, walking around the table and petting his head. "Stop it!" Sammy retorted. With a glare, he left to eat in front of the TV. "Do you have everything ready?" Irene asked as she sat down. "Yep." "I hope there aren't any boys going along on this trip." Ken said a matter-of-factly as he turned to the stocks page. "Um, well..." Serena hesitated. "Serena?" "Bye dad! I have to go get ready." Serena said quickly and ran upstairs. "I knew it. I knew there were going to be boys." Irene sighed. "She's perfectly fine. And after all, she's not a little girl anymore." Ken put down his paper with a sigh. "I know." "Oh I'm so excited! I can't believe that we're going to spend two entire days at the beach, without parents!" Mina jumped up and down. "Is she going to be like this all weekend long?" Ken asked, making Lita laugh. "That's our Mina." "Is everyone here?" Rei said as she checked all the supplies. "Everyone's here except Andrew." Ami replied, putting her books into her bag. "Oh no, he's not coming. We're not going to the beach!" Mina started to freak out. "Mina! Stop that! There he is, and apparently so is Darien." Rei said carefully as she looked down the temple steps. "Ah." Serena gasped in alarm. "Oh I mean, why is he here? I thought he wasn't coming?" Serena said as she rolled her eyes. "Hey, the more the merrier. Besides, now we're evenly paired off." Lita smiled. "What?" Serena asked sharply. "What did I say?" Lita asked, having no clue why Serena was acting so strange. "Uh, I'm going to the bathroom before we go." Serena said quickly and ran into the temple before Darien and Andrew made their way to the group. Lita shrugged slightly as she picked up her bags. "Hey Darien. I'm glad you could make it." Rei smiled. "Oh let me introduce some people here." She said as the guys stepped out to Darien. "This is Ken, Greg, and Chad." She gestured. "And everybody. This is Darien and Andrew." The guys shook hands briefly and exchanged a few words. "So are we ready to go. We should get there before noon so we don't have to have lunch on the road." Andrew said as he checked his watch. It was close to eight thirty. "Everyone's ready but Serena. Where is that girl anyway?" Rei asked agitatedly. "She went to the bathroom." Lita replied. "She better get out here soon or we're leaving without her." Rei huffed. "Sorry guys. Just some last minute preparations." Serena apologized as she shut the door after her. "Let's get going already!" Mina begged. "Ok, all the luggage are packed. I can fit about five people in the van. Who's riding with me?" Andrew asked. "I will!" Mina volunteered with a blush. "I guess Greg and I can have more space to go over our notes for cram school in the van." Ami said, making everyone sweat drop. "Serena, you have to ride with me!" Mina said as she dragged Serena into the van. "Darien, you can study the map." Andrew smiled, handing Darien the map. "Oh no. He's not riding in the same car with me." Serena shook her head. "For crying out loud Serena, there isn't any room left in Chad's car. So just deal with it." Rei said with a sigh and hopped in the front seat. Darien didn't say anything as he and Serena exchanged a glance at each other. "I thought you said this would be a relaxing trip." Darien whispered to Andrew. "I said it would be more relaxing than studying. Come on. Don't tell you me you really don't want to go. Get away from all your responsibilities just for the weekend?" he smiled slyly. "Alright. I'll take your word for it. But if she gets on my nerves too much, I'm taking the bus home." Darien replied. They both laughed as Andrew turned on the engine and drove out of the temple. "Oh, this is so beautiful." Serena gasped in awe as she and Mina looked through a bride's magazine. "Oh my gosh. Look at this wedding ring. I wish I were getting married." She sighed. "Fat chance of that." Darien muttered, but Serena heard loud and clear. "What did you say?" she sat up. "Who would want to live with you the rest of their lives. Being near you for one second is well enough to cause someone severe trauma." Darien bit out harshly. "Just shut up, Darien. Jerk." Serena said softly as she buried her head in her pillow and looked out of the window. For a long time, she didn't say a thing. Darien's face still sat in a frown as he too stared out of the window. With a sigh, he turned back to look at Serena. He could only see the side of her face. But from the glimmer in her eyes, he knew that he had hurt her feelings badly. "Look, I'm sorry." He said, trying to apologize. Serena closed her eyes briefly, blinking back the threatening tears. She didn't reply. "Never mind." Darien sighed as he turned back around. The rest of the ride there was spent in silence. Mina frowned slightly. 'What's up with those two? They can't be cordial to each other for two seconds.' Shaking her head, Mina slumped into the seat. "We're here!" Andrew announced. "Come on Serena. He did try to apologize." Mina urged as she unlocked the beach house. "You really don't get it, do you?" Serena asked. "It's like a natural reflex for us to argue. I can't just forgive him today and expect everything to be ok tomorrow. It just doesn't work that way between us. And the worst thing is that..." Serena stopped as Darien and the rest of the group walked in after them. "We'll talk about this later, ok?" Mina said seriously. 'I've got to figure them out.' She promised herself. "Ok everybody. Please make yourselves comfortable. I'll make some tea and snacks. Serena you want to help me?" she asked as Serena set down her luggage. Everybody sat down and relaxed for a moment. "Lita?" Serena asked as she held out the tray of iced tea. "Oh thanks." Lita smiled and gladly took a glass. Purposely skipping Darien, Serena walked around the couch to the other guys. They all gave each other a confused look. Without saying a word, Serena slammed the glass down in front of Darien, making the tea spill on the coffee table. "Oh, sorry." She said sarcastically before walking back into the kitchen. "Ok, what's up with her?" Chad chuckled slightly as Darien picked up the half empty glass. "Don't know and don't care." Darien replied, and leaned back against the couch. "So, uh Darien. What made you decide to join us?" Rei asked, trying to lighten the mood. "Actually I dragged him with me. Studying all the time isn't good for anyone." Andrew said. "Try telling that to Ami. She takes her books with her everywhere." Lita giggled. "Education is very important. And getting good grades in high school can increase your chance of getting into a good university." Ami began as everyone sweat dropped. "There will be no more talk about school as long as we are here. Anyway, where are we going to sleep?" Rei asked as Mina and Serena brought out some snacks. "Oh that's right. I forgot about that." Mina replied and sat down. "Well since there are only five rooms, we'll have to share. But it's just for the night." Mina mentally counted the rooms. "Oh and don't worry, there are two separate beds in each bedroom." "So what are you hinting?" Lita asked slyly. "Well, I'm sure Rei and Chad would like to share a room." Mina winked, causing the girls to giggle. Rei blushed slightly as she and Chad took their luggage into their room. "Ami and Greg. Lita and Ken." Mina continued on, pairing the couples together. She turned to Andrew and the two exchanged a knowing glance. "Serena and Darien." She announced happily. Two pairs of jaws dropped. "Oh no. There is no way that I'm sharing a room with him." Serena said as she pointed to Darien. "My thoughts exactly." Darien looked down to Mina with a serious tone. "Well, I have to have my own bed." Mina continued. "You said there are two beds in each...Oh no. Don't tell me..." Serena shook her head as Mina nodded. "Please Serena. The only way I can get a good night's sleep is sleeping in my own bed." She whined purposely, making Andrew chuckled. Serena looked up to Andrew. "Andrew, you and Darien can share a bed. Please I'm begging you!" She practically cried. Darien turned away as he listened to Serena's incessant complaints. "Uh, I don't think so Serena. That bed's too small for us. And it's perfect for you and Darien." "Come on, it's a queen sized bed. You two have plenty of room." Mina smiled triumphantly as Serena sighed. "I'll sleep on the floor." Darien volunteered. "Fine with me." Serena said as she picked up her bags. "Well, I tried." Mina shrugged as she and Andrew watched them tread into their room. "You think they'll make it through the night without killing each other?" she asked with a giggled. "Oh yeah, they'll be best friends by the time we leave." They both laughed. Yeah right, not in a million years. After getting settled, the girls fixed up a delicious picnic and headed out to the beach. "I'm going surfing with Ken. You guys coming?" Lita asked as she held her board. "No thank you, Lita. You go ahead. There's no way I'm going that far out with waves like those." Mina said as she and Rei looked out to the water. "Ok. Meet you guys back here for lunch." She waved and ran up to join Ken. "I'm think I'm going to lay here and get a tan. Maybe read a little in the sun." Ami said as she spread out her towel. "I'll join you." Greg smiled making Ami blush crimson. "And to think, you guys just wanted to be friends." Rei shook her head. "So my beautiful, what are we going to do?" Chad asked as his arms encircled Rei. "Well, I don't know. Why don't you think of something while I put on some lotion." She winked playfully and slipped off her dress, revealing a nicely tanned body encased in a two piece red bathing suit. Almost every guy on the beach lost his eyeballs. Chad proudly rubbed lotion over Rei's long legs, making the men jealous to no end. "Hey Andrew. Where's Serena?" Mina asked wonderingly. "I don't know. I thought she came out with you." Andrew said as he turned to look back at the beach house. "She's probably getting ready." Mina shrugged. "Oh wow! The water looks great! Come on guys!" she hollered as she ran down the shore. "You coming Darien?" Andrew asked. Darien took off his sandals and looked out tothe ocean. "I think I'm just going to lay down for a little bit. I'll watch the baskets." He replied as Andrew shrugged. "Alright. See you at lunch." He waved before running after Mina. Darien chuckled slightly as he watched Andrew chase Mina into the water. They seemed to be having a lot of fun. Suddenly a beautiful brunette caught his attention as she waved to him. Darien smiled and waved back, though having no intention of talking to her. "You're just going to stand here?" Serena asked suddenly, making Darien jump slightly in surprise. "For a little while." He replied, without any hint of interest. Serena sighed. Looking up to him out of the corner of her eye, she quietly walked away. "What's the use." She said softly to herself. She was going to forgive him for what he said to her in the car and maybe try to get along for the weekend. But obviously he didn't want to return her intentions. Stopping by Ami and Greg, Serena asked them to watch her things. Serena looked out to the strong waves and smiled coldly to herself. "He's clueless" She said softly as she tossed her shirt and skirt beside her things. "Serena, are you alright?" Ami asked as she looked up to her worriedly. Serena smiled back with a nod, though not concealing her true feelings. Tying her long pigtails around each bun, she ran toward the water. Darien was just about to sit down when something familiar caught his eye. He squinted his eyes to see better in the sun. Suddenly realization hit him. He was staring at Serena, running with speed into the cool water. His mouth became dry and coarse as he watched her. She was absolutely beautiful. A two piece black bathing suit revealed her long, smooth legs, small waste, and a body anyone would die for. "Serena?" Darien repeated softly. Was he dreaming? Shaking his head, he watched her dive into the water. It wasn't until Serena was completely out of sight, did he finally recompose himself. He shook his head slightly. "Hey Darien!" someone hollered from behind him. "Darien? Hello?" "Huh? Oh hi Andrew." He recovered quickly as Mina joined them. "What were you looking at?" Andrew asked curiously. "Nothing, just the waves." Darien replied. "It's almost lunch time. I think everyone should be coming back now." Just as Andrew said that, Rei, Chad, Lita, and Ken walked up breathlessly. "Man, was that exhilarating!" Lita said as she brushed her hair back. "Surfing is so fun!" "Let's play some volley ball after lunch." Mina suggested. "Good idea. Let's eat. I'm starving!" Ken added as they all gathered around the picnic blanket. Soon after they put the food out, Ami and Greg showed up. "I'm worried about Serena. Where did she go?" Rei asked worriedly. "She said she was going for a swim a while ago. We still have her things." Ami replied. "I'll go look for her. I think I know why she's been gone so long." Darien sighed as he got up. "Are you sure Darien? I mean with you and Serena not getting along...." Andrew asked. "I'm sure. And it's my fault that we got off on the wrong hand in the first place. I should be the one to apologize." Darien looked down to his feet. "Ok, hope you find her soon." Mina smiled. 'At least they're both trying.' She thought happily. With a slight smile, Darien left the group to look for Serena. He walked almost a mile up the shore and checked every booth along the beach, but there were no sign of her. "Where the heck could she be?" Darien thought agitatedly. He was beginning to loose hope. What if she was already back and he was just wasting his time wandering around. Darien stopped at a cliff to look around. Suddenly pieces of small pebble fell on his shoulder. Looking up, he saw Serena hanging to a piece of rock. "Serena!" he hollered. Gasping slightly, Serena looked down to Darien. "What do you think you're doing up there. It's dangerous!" "It's none of your business!" Serena hollered back as she grasped her hands tighter around the ledges. "Look, I know I hurt you today. I didn't mean it." Darien tried to apologize. "Don't Darien. Please don't." Serena said softly as she closed her eyes. "I'm sorry, Serena. Please forgive me." Darien said sincerely as he watched her. Serena looked down to him, a feeling of shock and relieve written over her features. "Please just come down before you get hurt." Darien chuckled as Serena slowly climbed down. She suddenly lost her footing, and with a small scream fell down the ten-foot cliff. Without hesitation, Darien gently caught her in his arms. "Be careful." He said softly as her arms found their way around his broad shoulders. For a minute or so, they were both too deeply in a daze to realize how close they were. "Thanks." She whispered as she stared into his midnight blue eyes. He gently set her down and ran a hand through his hair. Serena blushed as she looked away. The tingling feeling of being in his arms made tiny goose bumps appear on her sensitive skin. "They're waiting for us." Darien said as Serena looked up to him. "Let's go then." Smiling down at her, they walked slowly down the shore. Serena watched her feet nervously as she and Darien walked side by side. This has been the longest time they've ever spent together without throwing insults. The whole walk to the rest of the group was spent in silence. But it was a peaceful silence that they both enjoyed. Soon they reached everyone else gathered around the blanket. "Serena! Where were you? We were worried half to death!" Rei asked agitatedly as she stood up. "I, I just lost track of time. That's all." Serena said carefully. "Well, let's eat. We have a volley ball game after lunch." "Really? That sounds fun." Darien chuckled slightly as he watched Serena's every move. It seemed that all of a sudden, the feelings that he's been trying so hard to ignore hit him back ten thousand times harder. "Sushi, Darien?" "Huh? Oh thanks." Lita smiled as he put some in his plate. He continued to unknowingly watch Serena throughout lunch. "Ok, let's divide up our teams!" Rei hollered. "The girls against the guys!" she jumped up excitedly. "Are you sure that's a good idea because we're going to whip your butts." Chad said as he walked around to the other side of the net. "Oh we're sure. Come on. What are we waiting for?" Lita gave a wicked smile as she tossed up her shirt. "One advantage we girls have against you guys is this!" She said as she in one heap pulled her peach colored dress over her head, revealing a one piece low cut bathing suit. The guys hooted wildly, except Darien. "Come on Darien, have some fun." Andrew said as they began to play. "I, don't think so. Mind if I just watch?" "Huh?" Andrew asked as he stared at Darien. "What's the matter? You seem kind of out of it today." Darien chuckled slightly. "I'm just tired." Andrew shrugged. "Ok, but you're missing a lot of fun." Darien walked to sit on a chair and watched the rest of the games. Once or twice, Serena would cast her glance at Darien. He seemed a little worn out and unhappy. "Are you alright, Darien?" Serena asked timidly as they were getting ready to head back to the beach house for dinner. "Hum? Oh, yeah I'm ok." Serena looked at him skeptically. She wanted so badly to make him feel better. 'Get it out of your head, Serena. He's not going to share his problems with an airhead like you.' Serena thought to herself. "Um, well if, if you're ready, we're heading back." She said, slightly disappointed. Darien smiled and stood up. "Hey Darien! Help me with some of this stuff would you?" Chad hollered. Without saying another word to Serena, he jogged to their things and followed the guys back. "Do you know what's bothering Darien?" Serena asked Rei as they walked. "No." "Well, did you at least see how out of it he seemed?" she asked again. This time, Rei stopped and looked at Serena carefully. "Why do you care about him so much all of a sudden?" She asked. Serena looked down, blushing slightly. "I don't. It's just so obvious." "You know this whole spending time together thing is working out pretty well. Do you realize that you haven't fought once since this morning? I say that's big improvement." Serena sighed as they continued their way. "I don't know what to make of it. One second I want to strangle the life out of him, and the next second it just seem that everything is ok." Serena wondered aloud. "I don't really think you two hate each other so much. You just got off on the wrong hand. But you've learned to forgive him. Isn't that what friendship is about?" Rei smiled. "I guess you're right. But did Mina really have to make us share a bed?" at that, Rei and Serena burst out laughing. "You're old enough to know." Rei said carefully. "About what?" Serena asked. She really didn't have a clue what Rei was referring to. "Serena, Serena. Sooner or later, you'll have to get the sand out of your head. Things can happen." "What things? Rei, you're not making any sense." "You'll see." Rei smiled secretively. "You'll see." End of Chapter 1. Hi! Did you enjoy this chapter? If you still feel like e-mailing me, please do so.
