Something Unexpected: Chapter 1 by: Blue-Ice e-mail:qysm@hotmail.com "Mina!! For the hundredth time, tell me already!!" Serena yelled very unladylike to her blonde friend who had a sly smile on her face. "Just guess. Come on one more try and I'll tell you." "Ok, ok, let me see. Did I make an A on my English test?" Serena now was very impatient as she tried unsuccessfully to guess what Mina was hiding behind her back. "Ha, an A on a test? You? Come on Serena, really, be serious. Now try again!" By now Serena was fuming. "Oh, I'm sick of playing this stupid guessing game? Just tell me for crying out loud!!" Mina giggled at her outburst. "Alright, take a look at this." She said as she pointed to an article in the "Tokyo Edition." Serena took the magazine from Mina and started reading it out loud. "The Hottest Men in Tokyo. Sorry to all the ladies who had their hearts set on the famous movie star Toby Kinaka, but his heart now belongs to his beautiful Keiko-chan. They are to be married next Spring. Ah but opportunities to date the hottest and sexiest men are not lost yet. This years most famous star, you've guessed it, is the famous singer Seiya Kou. A night out with him and you'll be in paradise. The Three Lights are staying in Tokyo all year and currently not performing but enjoying their time off. Seiya is looking for a sweet girl who also has a heart for adventure, because next year, the Thress Lights are planning to climb Mt. Everest. Dangerous! Isn't it? Now listen up ladies, he's hot, he's sexy, he's handsome, he's rich, and he's the most respected doctor at Juuban Memorial, and the sole heir to the Chiba International Trade Corporations, the one you've all been waiting for and fantasizing about, he is the most eligible bachelor of the year....Darien Chiba." Serena paused suddenly as she read the sentence over a couple more times. Then realization dawned her. "WHAT!!! DARIEN CHIBA IS THE MOST ELIGIBLE BACHELOR OF THE YEAR????" She could barely think straight. There must be a mistake. There has to be. "Whoa Serena, could you possibly yell any louder? The whole arcade can hear you, even the cooks in the kitchen are ducking behind tables." "Huh? Oh hi Andrew." Mina smiled sweetly up to him. "Serena's in....uh a bit of shock right now. She'll be herself again soon...lets just cross our fingers." "Only a bit? >From what I just heard, she can wipe out a whole species of insects with her wail." "I heard that." Serena mumbled under her breath. "I just cannot believe that of all people Darien has to be the most eligible bachelor. What do girls see in him anyway. I mean am I missing something?" "Well," said Andrew. "I've known him ever since grade school, and he's always been the girls' target. I guess it doesn't surprise me too much." "Still, he doesn't deserve it!" "Come on Serena." Mina asked. "Why do you despise him so much anyway?" "Because." Serena replied angrily. "He is the world's most conceited jerk ever. All he does is make fun of me. Sometimes I feel so useless and stupid because of all the things he says to me." Now Serena's voice was quivering. "Mina, you just don't understand. Why can't he, why can't anyone just give me a break and let me be?" Mina and Andrew both knew what an impact Darien has on Serena. The poor thing, she needed her friends' support right now and Andrew knew just the thing to cheer her up. "Serena, listen to me." Said Andrew sternly. "Don't put yourself down like that ok?" Then he soften up. "To me, you're the best friend anyone would want. Someone loyal, forgiving, caring, and many other things...too many to name in fact. Just be yourself no matter what people say." Serena was touched by his honesty. She quickly wiped away some tears that streamed down her face. "Alright Andrew, I owe that much to you." "That's it girl, don't let people get to you." Said Mina kindly. "I know the instant we became friends that you were someone special. And I like you the way you are." Serena was now speechless. All of the things they said was so sincere. It wasn't just an excuse to stop her from feeling down. "Now what do you say, I treat you ladies to lunch?" "Lunch! mmm, that sounds good to me!" Serena immediately brighten up at the prospect of food. Andrew's little sister walked over to the three and passed out the menus. After filling their stomachs with delicious food, the girls thanked Andrew and walked to Serena's house. "Mina?" Serena asked quietly more to herself. "Do you think I'll ever find someone who would love me for who I am?" Mina was startled by the question. She herself loved Serena like a sister. Now why would she ask a question like that? "Serena, I'm sure you'll find someone. We still have a long life ahead of us. So stop worrying about it." "Ya, I guess you're right. " Serena looked down at her feet as she and Mina trudged through the thin layer of snow. For the next two weeks, they would have Christmas break. Serena smiled to herself as she thought how wonderful it would be to not have homework, reports, and teachers nagging all day at her poor behavior. After hanging up their coats, Serena quickly called out. "Mom, Dad, Sammy, anyone home?" No one answered. "Hmm I guess they went out." Mina said as she took off her shoes. "Ya probably wanted to do some last minute Christmas shopping." They went up to Serena's room to talk about girl things. Serena's cat meowed for attention, as she was picked up by Mina. "So Mina." asked Serena. "Who's been on your mind lately?" "Huh? Well, no one really, I've just been feeling a little down because I don't have a boyfriend." "Tell me about it." Serena replied miserably. Before she opened her mouth to say more the phone ringed. "Hello?" said Serena. "Hi Serena, it's me Amy. Anyway, I just called to ask you if you would help me with something?" "Sure name it." "Well you see, my mom is organizing a party for the hospital's charity concert. Of course the Three Lights are going to be there. I really need help with all the costumes and ordering dinner wear. So do you think you can help?" "Wow, a party? Sure, I'd love to. And so will Mina. She's at my house right now." Mina gave her a confusing look. "When do you need us to be there?" Serena asked excitedly. "Tomorrow morning at 9:30 would be good." "What I can't even sleep in? Oh well, it'll be worth it I guess. Alright I'll be there on the dot." "Thank you so much Serena! I'll have you and Mina's invitations by then." "Oh ok thanks and no problem." "Bye. See you guys tomorrow." "See ya." Serena squealed happily as she hung up the phone. "What's going on?" Mina asked. "Well we're going to the hospital to help Amy with the costumes for the party and we're also invited to go! And the Three Lights are going to be there too!" "Oh they're so dreamy!" They sighed as they started daydreaming about the famous singers, Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten Kou. The next morning, Mina and Serena met half way at a bus stop and walked to the hospital. "I can't wait to meet the Three Lights in person. They seem so mysterious." Mina said happily. "Oh especially Seiya, he looks so cool." They both giggled as they walked through the busy streets of Tokyo. All of a sudden, Serena sprint ahead of Mina and yelled. "Last one there is a rotten egg!" "Hey that's not fair!" The two girls ran at top speed, almost knocking people down as they raced to the hospital. "Ha I made it first!" screamed Serena triumphantly as she swung the glass door open. "Serena watch out for the..." "AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" someone on the other side screamed, then followed by a big CRASH and THUD. Before Amy ever got to finish warning Serena, she had already done the damage. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry sir. Are you alright?" Serena asked, scared that whoever she knocked down would be in a coma. "uhhhhh, my head..." was all she could make out from the guy's muffled voice. Turning him on his back, Serena began to get really worried. "I hope he doesn't have a lawyer Serena." Mina said as she came up behind her. "He's ok." said Amy as she checked his head. "Just a bit shocked and no major injuries." "Phew..." was all Serena could manage to say. Five minutes later the guy awoke to find a crowd surrounding him and asking him a lot of questions. His head was still spinning when all of a sudden he spotted an angel. Or was it? Oh she was beautiful with her golden mane shining like a hallow, and she had the sweetest smile on her perfect face. Before he could think more about her, he was interrupted by Amy. "Ok, come on everyone, you can get back to work now, he'll be alright." Everyone started to get back to whatever they were working on, leaving Amy, Mina, and a very relieved Serena to attend to the wounded man. The three girls helped him on a couch against a wall. Amy went back to ordering napkins and Mina went to get a cup of water. As soon as the man opened his eyes again, Serena began spitting out apologies none stop. "It's alright miss, I'm fine." he said in an amused tone. "My name is Seiya Kou. What's yours?" Serena sat unblinking for a moment as she took in the information. "Seiya Kou, of the Three Lights?" she asked uncertainly. "I hope I'm the only one." Seiya replied chuckling at her dumbfounded expression. "Oh my.." was all Serena could say. She was actually face to face with one of her favorite singers. "My name is Seiya...uh I mean Serena, Serena Tsukino." She replied nervously." Seiya couldn't help but laugh. She was so adorable with the most unique hairstyle he's ever seen in his entire life. "Well, it's nice meeting you, although we first met somewhat not the way most people would expect." He said with humor in his voice. "I'm so sorry, and I'm so embarrassed. Are you going to be ok? I mean you really hit your head hard." Serena said, each moment feeling like the biggest klutz ever. She lowered her head and stared at her lap. Surprisingly, Seiya gently touched her arm and smiled reassuringly. "I'm fine. Really I am." They spent the next half an hour just talking about things, like what they like to do during their spare time, what were their favorite food, movies, books...etc. "Wow I can't believe you're only 21, and so talented!" "Ya well, my brothers and I had wanted to become singers ever since kindergarten." Serena smiled "I'm almost 17 and in my sophomore year of high school, and yet I have no idea what to do with my life. I'm barely passing my classes, and now I have to think about college. It never ends. " Seiya laughed as Serena threw her arms in the air. "Sometimes I wish I was just a regular person and not have girls calling my flat every minute telling me what they would do to my body. It gets very annoying and uncomfortable." Serena giggled at that thought. "Well, at least you don't have to worry about finding the right girl. There's plenty for you to choose." "Really, Serena, all they ever want is my fame and fortune. That's why I'm an eligible bachelor because I can never find the right one." "Oh." said Serena amazed at how open he was with her. "What about you Serena, who's the lucky guy?" "Oh me? Well I don't have a boyfriend actually. No one has ever asked me out. I don't know maybe it's because of my hair." "You got that one right Meatball Head." Serena's head whipped around to find the person who had just insulted her. There he stands in casual sweats looking as if nothing in the world can harm him. His deep voice stirring something unfamiliar to her senses. "Why don't you get a life, Darien, since you're the most eligible bachelor of the year." Darien only laughed as Serena's face turned red in anger. "Darien honey, let's go." Came a deep, sultry voice behind him. Then a tall woman around Darien's age walked lightly beside him. She wore a simple brown sweater with a pair of khakis and boots. She was mature and sophisticated, and absolutely the most beautiful woman Serena has ever seen. Her shiny brown hair was tied up to a ponytail with a white ribbon. Only pearl earrings adorned her earlobes. From the way she carried herself, one can easily tell that she was rich. She turned around to face Darien, and with hands on both side of his face, pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss. Darien seemed pleased. He did not say anything, but instead pulled her into his arms again and held her beside him by her waist. "Serena, Seiya, I would like you to meet by girlfriend Melissa." "Nice to meet you." Serena and Seiya said at the same time. "Yes, nice to meet you too." She then put her arms around Darien's neck. "Come on honey, we need to take care of the party. " Darien only nodded and waved goodbye. As he walked off with Melissa, Serena could barely hear Darien say something about Meatballs that had caused Melissa to laugh. "Oh that self-absorbed man. I'll show him someday!" Serena vowed and then turned her attention back to Seiya. "I take it you don't like him so well?" "Ya what tipped you off?" They both laughed as they joked around about Darien and his so called girlfriend. The rest of the day went by according to plan. The whole ballroom was decorated and only the lights were left to be taken cared of by an electrician that was coming the next morning. To Seiya he has found the perfect girl he's been waiting for. Everything about Serena was light and warm. Her smile, her laughter makes Seiya's heart skip a beat. Every moment they spent together, even if was just decorating, drew Seiya closer to this incredible girl. 'Am I in love?' he asked himself. End of Chapter 1. Ok, I just like to say a few things.
