My poetry has received many comments, and I wish to thank everyone for the kind words they have written. Since I have covered the Senshi in depth, I decided this time to turn the spotlight on those who are rarely, if ever, fully appreciated. Since they have a tendency to fade into the background, I have titled this series “Background Voices”. I sincerely hope that these poems will make you think about a group of characters who make up the “other” part of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. Oh, by the way, the last poem rhymes because I felt like making it rhyme. Enough said. Feel free to write to me at gramarye@rochester.rr.com. It makes my day to find a message from someone who simply says, “Good job, and keep writing.” I’m sure many of you can agree. Disclaimer: Enjoy what I write, because it is the only thing that I can call my own. Sailormoon, the Sailorsenshi, all related characters and products, and anything else I did not mention is not. The characters I am dealing with are as follows (DiC dub names in parentheses): Osaka Naru (“Molly”) Umino Gurio (“Melvin”) Tsukino Kenji (Serena’s father) Tsukino Ikuko (Serena’s mother) Tsukino Shingo (“Sammy”) Furuhata Motoki (“Andrew”) Kumada Yuuichirou (“Chad”) Urawa Ryo (“Greg”) Shinozaki (“Ken”) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Background Voices By: Gramarye ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Naru – To Become I’m beginning to think That things are too bizarre To be coincidental I see demons in my dreams Defeated by saviors with familiar faces A love that couldn’t last For reasons I never understood Friendships that mean much more And yet oddly, mean much less So I just smile at the curious occurrences Take them as they come It will all be explained one of these days And when it is I’m sure I will be content. Gururi To – Turning Around I try very hard at everything I do That’s why I was so glad When I found someone to love I did what I thought would please her And why, may you ask? That’s an easy question I’d give her my most treasured possession If it would make her happy I’d trip and fall on my face Just to see her smile I couldn’t say such things to her But I think she knows me well enough To see the wordless music my heart sings. Keni – Authority I’m not the stereotypical Overprotective tyrant of a father Forbidding his daughter to date Until he overcomes his jealous attachment If she has a boyfriend I would like to meet him Talk to him, listen to him Hear what he has to say Then, even so gently, I’d tell him That if he ever breaks her innocent heart Or hurts her delicate feelings I will not rest Until he pays for it And pays for it dearly He would nod And the fear in his eyes Would I like it? Perhaps, but my daughter comes first And always shall. Ikubun Ka – To Some Extent Things are simply not the same Before, I felt like I knew my daughter Sweet and silly Lazy but enthusiastic A little uncoordinated, only at times But such a pretty child Recently, I can’t seem to fathom her Crying one moment yet happy the next Always out with her friends Crazy over boys I suppose this happens to all young women Yet why, from her room at night Can I hear the sounds of sobbing? I used to know my daughter Now, I see what she wants me to see I was a young girl once myself So why can’t I understand? Shinbou – Patience My sister, my sister We tease each other I’ve played a few tricks on her That’s just my style But I do care for her I really do And now, if you’ll pardon me, I have to put a spider in her bed, Turn off her alarm clock so she’ll oversleep, And cover her hairbrush with honey—— A younger brother’s work is never done. Moteru – Popular I must admit, I have a great job Everyone seems to pass by at one time or another Sometimes they stop in, Maybe to play a game or meet a friend Sometimes they keep walking, Having other things to do and see I watch them all And a dark little voice says deep inside, “If you were not here, They would still exist. If you had never been here, They would still exist.” I try to ignore the words Try to push them aside But they seem to strike just the right note To shatter me into a thousand pieces. Yuurei – Ghost I wonder if she knows I doubt if I’ll ever be sure She might and not show it She might and not care She might and not believe it She might, yet love another She might not have the slightest hint I don’t know which hell I prefer. Ryoushin – Conscience There are times when I wonder Why I even bother Premonition is a hell of a gift I want to be random And burst out laughing at a funeral I want to be sporadic And start singing for no reason I want spontaneity Just to alter What I hope Isn’t set in stone. Shinobu – To Endure Everywhere... You may not always notice But I will be there Should the rain Release your pent-up feelings In the heat of pain I’ll always see your gentleness It was how I got to know you well Can’t you tell? Nothing you do is ever in vain I know so much more about you Than you could ever guess Like a rainbow ‘cross the sky I’ll heal your sorrow There may be a brighter color tomorrow With love....
