I love my Japanese dictionary! It has to be one of the best purchases I ever made for under $10. Anyway, I have another series of poems that I created with the help of my wonderful dictionary. Again, these are about the Senshi, but this time the titles aren’t related to their names. That is why this series doesn’t fit under my heading of “Soliloquy in the Plural”. Instead, it is a collection of innermost thoughts, or in Japanese, “shinchu”. You should be able to recognize the characters by the sub- ject matter, but in case you don’t, they are in a general order of their appearance (with the exception of Setsuna and Mamoru). I hope you enjoy the poems, and would be most pleased if you should write to me at my address – gramarye@rochester.rr.com. Disclaimer: I accelerate for attorneys. Sailormoon and all re- lated items are not mine. Any questions? (Brevity is the soul of wit, if I recall my Shakespeare correctly.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shinchu — Innermost Thoughts By: Gramarye ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dare Demo Ii – “Anyone Will Do” Do you want to be my friend? Then come, walk with me We can talk of many things. So you want to know who I am? I’m a reincarnated princess Who returned to fight evil To save a preoccupied world And will someday be a queen To perpetuate a legacy All but lost from memory But that’s enough about me Please, what about you? With friendship I will change the world And anyone will do. Nadare – “Avalanche” I will be the first to admit I spend more time than I probably should With a textbook at hand But why is that so strange? There’s one test you can’t study for And that’s the test called life So I think it only proper That I try my hardest And if that means I fall asleep On a pile of novels If that means I end up Twelve chapters ahead of the entire class If that means I have little time to myself I will be content. Because I know, someday, A young child will take tentative steps On legs that were dismissed as useless And will look up at me with a smile That I can return with the confidence I desire more than anything. Un Ga Warui – “Unlucky” How wonderful I thought it was To know when danger was approaching To have the power to stop the violence And end the cycle of destruction at its beginning. Yet would you want what I have? To know when danger was approaching And not know whom it would attack? To have the power to stop the violence And know that it could mean my life? To end the cycle of destruction And possibly have nothing left to live for? Am I so lucky? It is up to you to decide. Yuigon – “Deathbed Instructions” Okaa-san smiled and told me to have fun and be careful. (Why did you have to leave me?) Otou-san pinched my cheek and said to fight fair. (Why did it have to be so soon?) Well, I can’t say that I didn’t follow their instructions. (Who was to blame?) Although maybe not exactly to the letter (Who took you from me?) I have had fun...at times (Why couldn’t I have been with you?) Careful...I tend to throw caution to the wind (Why couldn’t it have been me?) I’ve certainly done my share of fighting (What am I supposed to do now?) And fairness depends on the object at stake (What kind of life can I possibly have?) I hope you are proud of me, okaa-san, otou-san, (How can I live without you?) Maybe that knowledge will keep me going for another day. (How will I find the strength when you are gone?) Fukuramaseru – “Fill One’s Heart With Dreams” Oh, I want to do so many things I want to be adored by the many And known by the few I want to bring joy to millions And share sadness with individuals I want to enjoy my time on earth And relinquish it gladly when my duty is done I want life to be the song that I sing The dance I perform The smile that lights up my face The soft strands of hair that brush my cheek And if I can’t have that? Well, I’ll burn that bridge when I come to it. Ichatsuku – “Flirt” I enjoy it. Who wouldn’t? Lift my superego, Bury my id. Turn on the laughter Step into the spotlight Grin at the audience And act out a story That isn’t you That can never be you But perform well And for one instant Everything is rosy Dreams can come true Switch off the laughter Dim the spotlight Take a final bow But always leave them wanting more Give them hope...hope that you never had. Omou Zonbun – “To One’s Heart’s Content” I have all that I could ask for One who loves me, Friends who care about me, Time and money to do what I would like, A glistening future ahead of me, A tortuous past behind me, So I should be happy with what Fate has granted Please don’t think that I am ungrateful It is simply that I don’t know what I want anymore. Anshin – “Peace of Mind” In a world of infinite possibilities Where the future can be changed in a heartbeat I have to keep everything running smoothly Without altering the fragile structure of Time itself It wasn’t pleasant, I can assure you To see an Alexander, a Caesar, a Calligula, a Nero, A Borgia, a Napoleon, a Hitler—— And all the other random lunatics Bent on destruction and domination But none of them knew what I have always known None of them saw what I have always seen And I think that is what troubles me most. Itamidome – “Painkiller” Agony can sometimes be very sweet. It sharpens the soul to a lethal point It dulls the senses to admit no competition It clears the mind of extraneous thought It muddies the difference between good and evil It jabs the heart with a violent thrust It brushes the face with pallor It bottles up true emotion It releases tears of exhaustion Yet the fleeting moments when the pain is gone Release some of the sweetest times one can ever know And when the pain returns with a vengeance The ecstasy will remain—— Like the fading echo of a sobbing child. Tomeiningen – “Invisible Man” There when I’m needed Gone when I’m not I think I time my appearances just right I try not to stick around after my job is done Perpetuating the mystery Drawing the cloak of shadow closer to me I vanish with the wind Sometimes I feel their eyes burning holes in my cape But I don’t turn to look back Because if I do then I will see That I have been forgotten So I turn my face once again to the night And return once again to my solitude.
