A voice cried, and a figure came running through the gates. There was nobody there. 'Hm, that's strange...' Tomoe Hotaru thought to herself, looking around the misty landscape. A shiver ran up her spine and she recognized the sense as something being wrong with Chibi-usa. "She's not in the past, but Setsuna-chan's not in the future." Hotaru mused. A sliver of nervousness ran through her. "I need to go to the past, but usually Setsuna-chan's here to tell me where to go." Suddenly, a bright flash of light from the gates caused Hotaru to have to shield her eyes. When the light dimmed, standing in front of her was a scout dressed in Setsuna's fuku, but it wasn't Setsuna. Hotaru immediately summoned her glaive. "Halt! Who are you?" she demanded, twirling the sicle end of the glaive around until it was pointed straight at the intruder. The unfamiliar scout summoned the time key and the Garnet Orb began to pulse slightly. "Sailor Saturn. Do you not recognize me?" A calm voice said. Hotaru could still not see the scout's face, but felt an odd sense of familiarity. --The Present-- When Usagi got home, she found her mother waiting for her. "Usagi-chan... may I talk to you please?" she said, a bit of a question hanging in her voice. Usagi began to feel worried and sat down across the table from her mom. "I'm worried about you." Ikuko finally said. Usagi's head snapped up in surprise. "Why? I'm fine mama." she replied, looking back down at her hands. "Ever since your friend Seiya-kun moved, you've been going down hill. You don't go out with your friends that much any more. All you do is mope around the house." Usagi remained silent and waited for her mom to go on. When she didn't, she spoke up. "I'm fine mama." She whispered, then stood up and walked towards the stairs. "Usagi-chan," Ikuko called back up. "There was a phone call for you, just before you got home." Usagi paused. "Who was it?" "I don't know. He just asked if you were home and when I said you weren't he said he'd just call back later." Usagi's eyes narrowed. "He?" She asked. 'That's odd. The only guys I know now are Andrew, Greg and Melvin. As far as I know, none of them have my number!' Ikuko nodded. "Yes, he. He sounded familiar, though." she said, finally getting up from the table. Usagi sighed and turned once more to the stairs. The phone rang and Ikuko went to get it. When she wasn't called to the phone, she went up the stairs to her room. She was about halfway up when the doorbell rang. "Usagi-chan, can you get that please?" Ikuko called up the stairs to her. Usagi sighed. "Yes, mama!" she called down, and went back down the stairs to the door. Looking through the side window, she saw three men standing on the doorstep. Not recognizing any of them, she turned on the outside light and looked again. A gasp of recognizance rose in her throat and she stumbled backwards in shock and a little bit of fear. "M... mama! Could you please...?" Usagi yelled, a sob choking off her last words. She felt a shiver run up her spine, remembering what had happened the last time those three had shown up. "My word, Usagi-chan are you all right?" Ikuko cried when she saw Usagi's ashen face and widened eyes. Usagi only pointed to the door, then fled up to her room. Ikuko's brow furrowed and she went to open the door. Opening it, she was face-to-face with the same three men who had lifted Usagi's spirits so much during the time of Mamoru's absence. --The Future-- Serenity was pacing in her room after being ordered out of the infirmary by Ami for being too nervous. It had begun to rub off on her as well. There was a knock on the door of the royal chambers. Serenity hurried to the door and opened it, fully expecting to see Ami on the other side, telling her that Chibi-Usa had woken up. Instead, there was an aide standing there, a grave expression on her face. "I'm sorry, your Highness..." she said, trailing off as she handed Serenity the envelope. Fearing the worst, Serenity ripped open the envelope, fully expecting a message from Ami. Instead it was from the Sage. Endymion had, in fact, died. During the probings of the Sage, he went on, it was found that the outer sac surrounding the heart had broken. Serenity's eyes clouded as she read the message. After she was done reading it, she looked down and closed her eyes for a moment. "Thankyou for bringing me this message." Serenity said, looking up. "We will be sure to give Endymion the proper honors. Alert the kingdom and prepare a seremony for the day after tomorrow. The aide nodded and hurried down the hallway. Serenity went over to the window seat and sat down, staring out the window at the magnificent rose gardens Endymion had grown. There were roses of all colors... red, purple, yellow, even a bush of silver and gold in a private spot. Endymion had grown it just for her. Serenity thought about Chibi-usa in the infirmary. 'Chibi-usa- chan, please wake up soon. Without Endymion, you're the only one I have left.' She silently begged. -There's always someone there to help you. You're never alone.- Serenity spun around, looking for the source of the voice. Seeing nobody, Serenity looked down at her hands, then went over to her bed. "I must be too tired to think straight." she said to herself, as she laid down on her bed for a nap. Within minutes, she was fast asleep. "Seiya, answer me!" Usagi demanded, "Seiya come on, don't play this game with me. Answer me!" She demanded. Seiya only groaned. He opened his eyes, slightly. "Odango..." He whispered. Usagi looked up and noticed they were right in front of the building. "Seiya, I'll beat him. For you... for us. I'll kill him, he won't be alive another day. He'll pay for causing this!" Seiya started slipping in and out of consciousness again and Usagi shook him to keep him awake. Finally, Seiya said one last thing. "Odango, don't give up. There's always someone there to help you. You're never alone." He said. "No... Seiya don't go! Oh, Seiya, I love you..." Serenity woke up breathing hard. Her mind screamed at her with incoherent thoughts. She felt sweat dripping down her face. Fear gripped her heart and she worked vainly to steady her breathing. Having calmed down a bit, Serenity walked over to her desk. Picking up a pen, she gripped it in her hand. Knowing her message would be incoherent if she wrote it, she merely took out a piece of paper, and began burning in the words with her eyes. When she was done, she picked it up and slid it into the slot that would instantly deliver the message to Queen Hino Rei's palace offices. No more than a minute later, she had a reply. "I'll be down quickly, Serenity. Queen Aino Minako has had similar dreams and such." The reply said. Serenity sighed. So much had changed since she had become Queen. Her friends had began to drift apart; only she and Ami still had the close friendship they used to share with the rest of the Imperial Queens. "You're highness, my daughter has been learning the studies and ways of my people quite well. She is eager to take her place as Queen and I do not wish to be away from you and Chibi-Usa-chan." Imperial Queen Mizuno Ami stood in front of Neo-Queen Serenity and Neo-King Endymion. Having stated her request, she stood with her head bowed in front of the two. "Ami-chan, this is what you lived for! After your mother died and you took her place at the hospital, this had been your dream. Now you're giving it up for me?" Serenity said, standing to join her friend. She remained silent. "We won't allow it, Ami-chan." Endymion said. "Your duty is with your people, and your daughters is with her friends. Chibi-Usa's guardians." "Well can't I still rule from here? You know my people are very peaceful and rarely need such a guiding hand as Chibi-Usa-chan." Ami pressed on. Serenity pursed her lips. "So what you are trying to tell me is that you would give up your dream in order to be here with us, and for your daughters dream to come true?" She said. Ami nodded slowly. A small smile spread across Serenity's face. "You truly are a great friend, Ami-chan. Your wish has been granted. You will continue to rule here, but you *must* return to Mercury if any problems come up that your daughter cannot handle, or if she is needed here." Ami smiled and she and Serenity hugged. "Now go gather your things. I will prepare a room for you in our wing." Serenity said, then turned and exited the room as quickly as she had earlier arrived. Queen Hino Rei arrived in the middle of her rememberance, a grave expression on her face. --The Present-- "Luna, why are they here?" Usagi whispered as she lay on her bed. Luna circled around and laid down by Usagi's head. "Usagi-chan, I can honestly say I don't know at this time. Setsuna-sensei is back, but we cannot talk to her. The starlights are here, and Rei's suspicions of a new enemy seem to be true. I don't know what to think." As she sobbed, her crescent moon began to glow, and a soft white light engulfed her body. Usagi began to glow. "Usagi-chan?" Ikuko knocked on the door, then opened it to see her daughter sleeping peacefully. Seiya peeked in around her. "Are you sure you want to wake her up?" Ikuko asked, smiling. Seiya saw the glow around Usagi, though Ikuko couldn't, but shook his head anyway. "She needs her rest. We didn't really give her any warning that we were coming." The doorbell rang again. Seiya went to answer it while Ikuko gently closed the door behind her. The glow subsided, and Usagi's eyes opened slightly. "Luna? Did the doorbell just ring?" she saked. Luna smiled her cattish smile and nodded a confirmation. Usagi heard exclamations downstairs and looked outside to see a familiar motorcycle parked in front of her house. She became panicked and began rushing around her room, trying to find her Luna Pen. "Usagi-chan, what's wrong?" Luna exclaimed. "Haruka-sama and Michiru-sama! They're here! The last they knew, I'm dead! I have to disguise myself!" Usagi exclaimed, desperately. "Check your lunar pocket." Luna said, deadpan. Usagi stopped mid-yell and let out more of a squak instead. "Oh, yeah. Thanks!" she reached into her Lunar Pocket and pulled out the small pen. "Disguise Power! Turn me into an American exchange student that my mother *knows*!" She exclaimed. A moment later, a red-headed tall super-thin teenage girl stood in the place of Tsukino Usagi. "Quick, Luna! I need a name!" She whispered to Luna. "Use Ashleigh. Ashleigh Jacobs." Luna whispered back. Sighing in relief, Usagi opened her door and descended the stairs to the living room. She saw her mom, Haruka, Michiru, Hotaru, Seiya, Yaten and Taiki sitting and talking. "Oh, Ashleigh! I'm so glad your up!" Ikuko exclaimed, and stood up. She gave *Ashleigh* a hug before introducing her to the others. "Ashleigh, these are some friends of Usagi-chan's. Seiya-kun, Yaten-kun and Taiki-kun are cousins. Michiru-sama and Haruka...kun. This is Ashleigh Jacobs from America." ---USAGI'S POV--- I noticed Haruka and Michiru exchange glances after looking at my mom, then to Seiya, then to me. Seiya was studying my face as if it hadn't changed at all, and maybe he could tell if it was really an exchange student or not. 'S**t! I forgot the starlights can tell!' ^Okay, okay! Seiya-kun it's me! Usagi-chan! Please, don't blow this in front of Haruka and Michiru! As far as they know I'm dead, and the imperium silver crystal wasn't able to bring me back. Just please! Don't blow this in front of them *and* my mother!^ I saw Seiya's eyes widen as he looked at me, then to Haruka and Michiru. ^I won't say anything, Usagi-chan. I won't even ask what you mean because I'm not so sure I want to know. I'll tell the others not to say anything.^ ---NORMAL POV--- "Well, I'm going to go get some tea. Do any of you want any? Ashleigh?" Ikuko said, standing up. "Um, sure. Thanks." *Ashleigh* said, trying her best to sound shy and halting in her Japanese. Ikuko smiled and nodded as the others gave their orders, and then left the room. "Drop it, Usagi-chan we know it's you." Haruka said the moment Ikuko was out of hearing range. Usagi's disguise quickly dissolved. "But... how... How did you know it was me?" Usagi exclaimed. She glared at the starlights. Seiya shook his head slighty to show that it wasn't any of them. "That's for me to know and for you to find out. Later." Haruka said, standing up. "We only came here to warn you. That's all we can say." She said, helping Michiru to stand. In an instant, they had disappeared in a blinding flash of light, leaving only a modified Space Sword and a modified Aqua Mirror in their absence. Usagi picked them up, and they disappeared into her Lunar Pocket. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sort of a cliffhanger, isn't it? Oh, well.
